    Re: Boxster Spyder

@WAY: Although 'Pravda' means 'truth' in Russian, it was the name of one of the major national newspapers in the Soviet Union during the Communist period. That is perhaps why BlackOctober was intrigued by the choice of name.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pravda

BTW I think Melbourne is a great place for a Boxster Spyder. IMO either it's a good day or a bad day so the extra effort of removing or re-attaching the hood is not something one has to do suddenly during the day due to a sudden weather change. In my experience, the weather in Melbourne tends to be a certain way for a whole day at a time. When it's perfect, it can be really idyllic and in summer the temperatures can be even hotter than Sydney. But I think that there can be whole days that are cloudy with some rain due to proximity to the huge Port Philip Bay (which is more like an inland sea). I suppose Melbourne has more extremes of weather than Sydney does. In a way, Melbourne has something in common with Chicago (obviously without the snow) in that Chicago's weather can be affected by its proximity to the huge Lake Michigan.

Yes, my Porsche dealer actually knew that Pravda is a famous and influencial newspaper in Soviet Union and he mentioned it,  I only knew about the Russian meaning until I heard that.

Melbourne weather can be a bit fickle, but we do get less rain than Sydney.  You just have to watch the weather forecast, if it says there is a chance of shower in the afternoon, then you be ready for it.  To tell you the truth, I don't find the roof that difficult to put up and down, and I can't do it in 1 min if I want to.

To tell you the truth, I am one of those rare people who really like this roof.  I love the simplicity (read: lack of electronics) and old school nature, and there is something romantic about manually putting on the clips, buttoning up the canvas, tensioning the roof etc.  Sure I probably look rediculous when I do this by the road side in the city, but the romanticism (if there is such a word) is not lost on me whenever I lovingly put the roof up and down.  Maybe it is because growing up, my dad worked for Oxford and Macmillan publishers, where his English bosses drove MGs.  Dad is not into cars at all, but he would talk about their MGs with the cloth roof.  But then again this is far from a daily driver for me.  If it was, perhaps I would be a bit tired of the lack of insulation and complexity of the roof mechanism.

    Well,

it is no coincidence that this particular newspaper was called "Pravda". Smiley

You sum it up nicely. What some people might not understand is the effort Porsche put into this model, as it was readily available even on the configurator people see it as yet another variant of the 987 for everyday use, such as the countless editions or even the Cayman R. If one compares it to the genuine Exclusive models such as the Sport Classic or Speedster and considers their respective pricetag, the Boxster Spyder appears as a steal... I happen to like this model and, as you rightfully said, as a third car in the garage it is great.

How much time does it take you to attach or remove the top?

    Re: Boxster Spyder

He said it takes 1 minute.

I agree - WAY summed it up very well

Essentially, one has to care enough to do it every time. Not all owners are like WAY

    Re: Boxster Spyder

I think Ferdie picked up an error I wrote. I said "I can't" do it in 1 min, but I meant I can. But I prefer to do it slowly per what I said above. It isn't romantic when you are rushing the process after all! @derder, yeah call/SMS me and we work out when to go for a drive! I am very keen to see how the 1M performs too!

    Re: Boxster Spyder

Hi WAY, many congrats on your Spyder - the car looks fantastic SmileySmileySmileySmiley

Great attention to detail - when I spotted the sunvisor in Cocoa leather I recalled the lenghty discussions with the wifey when we specced our own Boxster S in Cocoa Smiley

GT3 + Spyder is an awesome Porsche garage Smiley
