RC How about your official test drive report for the 991?

We're in the process of trying to get a test car but unfortunately Porsche seems to be (officially) more interested in providing test cars for larger publications. Smiley

Maybe we can manage something different but my hopes aren't too high. Many things have changed... Smiley

In terms of targeting prospective buyers and not just the masses, I don't whats more efficient than the large worldwife specialised forums such as Rennteam, unfortunately Porsche is still very much in the past in these aspects.

A pic of the rear seats.

Thanks a lot, I was waiting for this one. Smiley

Unfortunately the rear space doesn't look as good as I expected, especially the back rest seems to be as uncomfortable as ever, horrible. I'm going to check that in the "real thing" but my hopes of more comfortable rear seats have been just crushed. Smiley

Christian, I know someone who was involved in the shooting of the official press pics. He already had a seat in the rear of the new 991. He said space there is still very limited, only a little bit more leg room but the seat position and the head room space is awkward as ever. Smiley

Probably the main reason why the 997.2 GT3 came with the foldable bucket seats as standard Smiley - allows for some extra motivation for small school kids "if your math test earns a "gut" or "sehr gut" I'll take you with me for a fast lap on the Nordschleife, if not you've gotta clean the back window in the GT3" Smiley

Hey, thanks. Those pictures are perfect to compare a 997 and a 991.

And my supposition was correct: Smiley the wider front track of the 991 makes the rear "shoulders" to stand out less than they did on the 997 Smiley

The 997 looks now like a '' classic'' . I must say after the first ' woaw' factor of the 991, I am liking the 997 shape again a lot , as it has still the typical roof line that goes way back in time.

The 991 looks more modern and aggressive, but I think the 997 will be the next 993 Smiley

Nice comparison pictures.  Why are all water-cooled engined 911s back end so big?  I mean the engine compartment is much higher than the 993 (and before that).   This exaggerates the hump back and makes the rear end look heavy.

I saw it up close and can confirm that the rear seats are identical only with a bit more legroom.

That's very good news! It would have been a disgrace if 4 adults fitted in comfort in a 911. Imagine what the GTphobes would have to say Smiley

I just wish the kids (7 and 10) would have a more comfortable seating position, I couldn't care less about more leg room. Maybe the developers should get their priorities straight, those buying a 911 usually also have kids according to the average buying age.

SmileySmiley Even if they just changed the angle on the seat. I do not understand why they have the top angled forward.

I apologise in advanced if anyone here likes the 911 badge...but that has got to be the most stupid option, ever! Smiley  I don't think any of us previous owners would order it with that badge, but perhaps someone new to Porsche may think it looks good. Smiley

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Thanks, for posting the video, Paulo.

It's interesting how different a car looks in motion than in flat. That video shows the car off very favorably, in my opinion.

RC, I know you have a strong desire to keep the kids in the 911, but I wonder if they are already at an age where their fast growth rates, and need to have a better outside view of the world means that they are pretty soon past being "willing" passengers in a 2+2 coupe of any design.  That is the reason, when my kids were the same age, I resigned to do all my family driving/touring in a relatively compact 4-door (BMW 328), which with some sports upgrades, was a satisfactory compromise between happy kids and happy driver.   Of course that is also the path that led to me driving the "practical car" and my wife doing her daily driving in the sports car.... maybe not where you want to be!

Imposing your (relatively short term) family dimensions and needs on this 991 design seems somehow a bit selfish.... but I do understand your dream to have your family and your sports car all together.   Smiley  Question is - is it a reasonable dream??  Smiley

Not precisely on topic, but  I will be in Frankfurt for the press days during the 991 debut.  I will have a few days to enjoy sights, restaurants, events.  Anyone have any good casual restaurant tips, fun neighborhoods, even cool spots within driving distance? I am staying at the Westin Grand Frankfurt (fine enough spot where I have stayed many times before), so located right in Frankfurt.

I will be posting pics, impressions and maybe some video.  So much has already been covered in this thread that I probably will be adding only impressions and generalities, but if any of you want me to focus on any aspect of the 991 in particular, post here or send me a PM.

Indeed, I saw what looked like a camouflaged 991 Turbo in Weissach, well, the width was very real and boy did it have hips!!!

I think the 991 is 6cm wider than the 997, making it effectively as wide as a 997 Turbo, so imagine a wide bodied 991, sweeeeet!!!!

The 6cm overall difference is because of the larger mirrors. Body is the same width.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

     curious if--

anyone knows what changes were made to the 991 after Audi acquired Porsche, assuming the rumors were/are true?

(if i remember correctly, there were "rumors" that Audi directed some changes to be made to the not-finalized design?)

    thank you
