Are you able to post a closer pic of these dashboard ? I´m also not willing to pay a full leather ... but I´m having in mind the non leather dashboard of first generation Cayenne .... absolute terrible ...
I don't like leather dashboards because of the extra maintenance required and the danger of irreparable damage due to scratches and sun/heat related deformations. It's a negative point for me that a plastic dash cannot be ordered on the 911 Turbo.
On my 997.2 the plastic dash looks very good to my eyes, in black. I expect the 991 will be at least as good. The Gen I Cayenne had that sort of "elephant skin" plastic dash which was really unattractive.

I agree - I thought about the leather option on my GTS, but the plastic is really quite excellent and solid looking, that it was more simply "different" to me rather than clearly inferior.

Unfortunately not. I found the image on this site and the images are not available in higher resolution: http://www.autoreflex.com/voiture-occasion-porsche-911-991-carrera-s-3-8l-400-FVO4865718.htm
Regarding the first ge Cayenne I agree upon that the non-leather interiour looked horrible. But if you look at the interiour of the latest Cayenne it's great and this is what it would look like in the 991.

I have booked a test drive . It will be monday at 3 PM . The car does not have PDCC , but my dealer said : don't worry, it has many other nice options.
So we will see. I can't wait. Tonight I am going to the official launch over here. Rumours says there might be a few of the local F1 drivers ( Sebastien Buemi, Alain Prost ..... )
997.2 C2S, PDK, -20mm
This is quite interesting. One of the changes from 997 PDK -> 991 PDK is that it's now possible to put the gearbox in Neutral via the paddles if you have the optional Sport Steeringwheel (which I presume everygody gets ). Cool.
"Neutral via paddle
A further special function (neutral via paddle) is available if the vehicle is equipped with the optionally available paddle steering wheel. If both shift paddles are pulled simultaneously and then released again, the active clutch is opened and the transmission is disengaged from the engine.
The number disappears from the gear indicator and the selector-lever position displayed in the instrument cluster flashes.
Power transmission can be re-established by pulling one of the shift paddles or by actuating the selector lever.
At low speeds approaching standstill, the brake must also be actuated in order to establish power transmission.
This function makes it possible to quickly disconnect the power transmission between the engine and transmission."

Interesting post, thanks Lukas. One further question: Did non-turbo 997.2 Carreras have launch control?
Yes, if equipped with Sport Chrono Plus option.

Just came from the presentation event of the 991, which was today for all of Spain. Very impressed with its looks in person, it caused me a better initail impression already than the 997 did in its day. Looks sportier with a lower and wider stance, though it also looks bigger. The rear is fantastic. The interior is what surprised me more, since it felt a loot roomier than the 997, more than I expected, in part do to the windshield that now meets the dash much much further foward. Will worte up a full report as soon as I can get behind the wheel, probably next week if my day job permits

Just like Carlos, I just arrived home from the launch here in Madrid. So far, the 991 looks much more refined, its difficult to express but it looks like an egg ultra wide, the front lights egg style looks phenomenal...
The best of the car so far : the interior and the rear. Although pdk basic steering wheel is a huge mistake in the 991.
Also had the opportunity to listen to a carrera S exhaust with no sport exhaust, and sounded pretty nice.
the front led lights have much much power an the 997.2 leds.
The rear seats, I have read they have more space than in e 997, and imo its the same.
the dashboard is probably one of the best things of the interior, it looks GREAT.
Will post a full review next week (Wednesday), will have a 991S for three complete days !!!!!! :-)

I confirm the overall impression, as I saw it also yesterday. The car looks bigger , specially the front. There is a lore luxurious feel inside , just closing the doors makes a new sound ( more 'upmarket' ) . I guess I'll will be easier to get used to more ' comfort' , then it would to go the other way .
I do not like the central console as it is too big and intrusive to me.
Generally the car looks very nice sporty, and definitively in now in a superior league.
@ Alex : you are very lucky the get the car for 3 days. I managed to get for one our . The test car is already sold + too many people want to try it

Apparently the Top Gear team were in South Africa filming the car yesterday whilst the dealer launch event is being run there. I'm told that they were overheard saying that it is the best sports car. Time will tell if this positive impression makes it onto their filmed piece for the next series.

Gnil, I also clearly confirm the feeling about opening the doors, the sound when closing has a completely new feeling from the 997(997 is much cheaper feeling)....anyways, this is not a vital positive point :-) but I inmediately felt this.
I also managed to go through all the crowd and open the rear engine bay, well there is nothing to say about that, we have seen it in the pics, but I would prefer looking to the engine instead of a plastic and two ventilators, again this is just a comment but may be porsche should have done something better.
Regarding the wheels, NO DOUBT the best decision are sport classic wheels, sport design wheels are way too boring, there where three 991S two of them had sportclassic and one with sportdesign.
Also the handbrake has a red light and its something new in the 911.
Gnil, yes!! We are very lucky to have it for three days, may be it would have been two days, but thursday is holiday too. :-)
Will definately post a big review with lots of pics.

Is this in South Africa? I saw mostly whites in the audience. Can't be right, can it?

The reason is because the presentation was not for South Africans in general but excusively for the Porsche dealership owners/managers worldwide.

And plus South Africa has an extremely large white population, more than any other place in Africa.
