Carrara:
New shots: The colour, in addition to mimicking a seventies dishwasher, proves this latest testing is from publicity. Oh, and new wheels.
These pics were taken at the factory complex in Zuffenhausen and the cars are just being moved around the facilities, not being "tested". That's why they are not fully camouflaged.
The factory's summer break is about to start and the introduction is known to be planned for the Frankfurt show in early September, so what we see here are the first production cars to come off the line, which will probably be press and dealer demo cars wearing the usual transport protection. (And apparently a little disguise of the new lights because these cars cannot be kept completely from public view at this late stage of the game).

Good catch, fritz So this car with the protective pads for transport probably is one of the first dealer demo cars (I guess the press cars will be all deployed from Zuffenhausen, hence no need for transport pads) ?

Oh, and look at pictures of the 904 when you think of round lights akin to the 918. It will put you in the right headspace.
The rounded haunches and other curves of the 991 remind me a lot of the 993, so maybe those who can't wait for its introduction could also try googling pics of that model for possible clues to the look of the headlights?

Regarding the lights - what I could see so far underneath that bold sticker is, that they will be ovalish, but my guess it goes the direction of the 918. They might have still a elliptic glass underneath but you will have the LED option. So I really look forward to find something close to the 918.

I thought the same...
Still stunning how many people already made up their mind about the car without seeing the entire picture or reading the specs. I for one like the changes it brings to the 911, technically as well as stylistically. Who doesn't appreciate the change can still buy a 993, 996 or 997 model.
Haha Ferdie, I guess it is the excitement, combined with the mental image people have in their heads... they need to match reality with the image in your head.
That's why this slow striptease is so important:
A) it keeps the buzz alive
B) it lets people slowly get used to the final product

I guess the 991 headlight is not round at all

My predicitons: The headlight will be 918 "style" (NOT SHAPE!). As in style, I mean they will have a similar recess, and headlight "interior" (under the lens). I predict the shape will be similar to the 997, just more ovular, as in Boxster/Carrera GT (though more aggressive and more circular than on both).

I believe that your prediction is more close to the real thing.
This steering wheel is different than on earlier pictures we have seen. On the other ones, it has a recession in the top of the wheel, to mimic the yellow tape that indicates the top of the wheel on the RS models...
