It just occurred to me; are we back to a straight cut line , where the bumper assembly meets the quarter panel? It looks like it to me ....
Why would they have this complicated split level engine cover, if they didn't need to increase the space for the retractable top mechanism......

Oh, forgot...front lights will bear a slight surprise too.
RC -- let's hope that the front lights don't look anything like this horrific photoshop from the August 2011 issue of Top Gear magazine...
...surely there's no way Porsche would ever design such a cross-eyed grotesque mutation!
For those of you who have young kids, it looks like a Pokemon
93' Guard Red 968 Coupe
Revvv:Is this 991 Cabriolet a retractable Hardtop, or Not ???? I have to know........... they wouldn't waste waste money to engineer a passe' Fabric top ??? This fabric over the top components, yes.
The would not do a cloth top...........
I don't t hink so......... It must be a retractable Top !!!

Then Porsche would change it to a slant cut during the next round of facelift.........

Larry, what you see there is the seam where the camouflage panel covering the rear bumper meets up with the real bodywork.

don't want to be off-topic hear obviously, but the last paragraph of this article mentions that the four-cyclinder engine could be potentially used for the 911 so thought i would post--
These are US spec mules. Notice there are no more bumperettes. Instead the US gets a unique license plate housing.
What great shots! we can clearly see the tail lights, and the 991 looks small and agile in these spy shots, rather than large and fat as some others have showed. Personally, I'm relieved it looks very similar to the 997. The 997 is such a gorgeous car.
pjd: I think there is still too much camo on the headlights to tell, but judging by what I see, there's nothing to worry about.

Don't be frightened by that Top Gear rendering. That is one of the worst photoshops I've ever seen in my entire life. ;)
Also, I just noticed that the new sunroof panel consists of most of the roof panel, and it isn't glass, its body coloured.
Oh yes! That is looking good

It`s indeed a very bad photoshop.
Carrara, do you think you can make a PS basead on what we can see so far from the front?

Incroyable--so they make these mules in colors other than black? I might start really scanning this thread again. Thank you Misha, thank you!
Rear flanks don't seem as wide as earlier pics, and I hope final rear lights are larger. The lights look a bit small set in that large rear bumper section.
Otherwise, tres elegant..

All the black mules we see are prototypes. Since we're so close to the unveiling, it seems Porsche is running the production version of the 991 on the streets, which is painted in other colours rather than black.
BTW, pjd, here is a quick PS revealing that shape of the headlights and foglights. The headlights aren't much of a surprise, but the shape of the foglights is a big surprise.

Wow, the foglight/running light also looks horrible, and so does the turn indicator Maybe the 991.2 will fix that as well
