John H:
Just had a call from my OPC - the Speedster black stone chip guards I ordered have arrived and I'm having them fitted tomorrow..

John, I think I will follow your lead on this...the look is very cool! I will ask my dealer.
How much are you paying for the black chip gurards?
Thanks!
Just got back from collecting my car. The fitting of the black guards didn't take long at all but it was advisable to leave them to set for a few hours.
I think they look fantastic...although it takes a little while to view the car as a whole again rather than centring one's attention on just the guards..
They are a beautiful matte shade and really compliment the other black trim and, of course, the wheels.
Here are some quick shots I took.... what do you guys think?

Well it's not unanimous! I've been out to dinner tonight with a dozen or so friends. It's about 60/40 in favour, but those who don't like the look (mainly females including my wife) hate them and think they spoil the car's natural lines...
I'm still happy with them but must admit some doubts started to creep in with some of the comments made!
I tend to think that, like I said before, they attract all the attention at the moment.and people look hard at them separately from the car instead of standing back and viewing them as just a feature of the car as a whole..
Time will tell - it wouldn't be over-expensive to revert to the former clear guards, but that would defeat the object of fitting them in the first place...

Go with your own gut feeling, John.
You didn't buy the car for other people.

I belong to the 40% .......it makes me stare at them constantly and maybe I've spend to much time on the 991 threat with it's "turbo vent" sticker - but I would agree with yr wife (despite I have a lot of stickers on mine too ). In like the picture of Kashmir together with the fuchs wheels thou...
More people I know have commented today on the black guards. Seems they're getting more popular - the overall split is now nearer 75/25 for them..
Just wish my wife hadn't likened them to eyebrows (given the wheel represents the eye!) Can't seem to get that thought out of my head..
Pity we can't set up a forum poll on this like we used to be able to....
The other thing to consider, of course, is that the car was a little dirty when they were fitted and couldn't be washed straight after. As the newness equalises with use and with a freshly cleaned car, any apparent starkness should fade into insignificance..IMHO.
I'm liking them more and more..

I think Enmanuel makes a good point - most of us know the classic reference to older Porsches when we see these dark guards.... people without that knowledge just see "strange". In making these kinds of changes you end up deciding which group you are speaking to....

Although I've owned P-cars for over thirty years, that point didn't actually influence my choice... unless it was perhaps sub-conscious?
It was just because clear guards on light colours are difficult to clean and eventually tend to turn yellowish.

Hi Doug... Here's the pricing details you asked for...
Set of 2 guards - £68.84 + vat = £80.21 (Part number: 997.559.035.00)
Fitting - £20 per guard + vat = £48.00
Total - £108.84 + vat = £128.21

You're welcome Doug - hope it goes well...
Just make sure you get the right guards for the wide body version i.e. the Speedster.
Don't take the " It can't be done unless we have a Speedster in stock" line that I got from one OPC..
They are readily available with the part number I've quoted above...
