    It is under development, so aero is very far from being finished. So now we only have unfinished design and no tech specifications. In other words, nothing))

    The one thing that always bugs me are these prototypes all looked very generic, if we didn't already know this is Porsche's entry, and without any livery, it could be anybody's car.

    Same with F1 all cars looks too much alike.

    Call me old fashion, I like production based racing more :) Or at least the old GT1 class. 

    But it's still will be exciting time seeing how the Porsche would stack up against Piech's pet within the VW empire.

    Piech was the leading force behind the 917 development and was his drive and ambition that brought the first Le Mans victory for Porsche in 1970. I would assume (imho) that deep in his heart he wishes the Stuttgart finest to the take the win.

    Piech singlehandedly bought Audi from irrelevant to the crown jewel in the VW empire, it's definitely his baby through and through.

    I agree, but unfortunately a combination of rules and aero physics dictate that the modern cars look almost identical. Another downside to progress.

    I do agree, note that aside from the recent and successful Audi Le Mans activity the biggest Audi success (and in this case Piech was hands on involved ) was the Audi Quattro rallye project that brought to the world the Audi Quattro all wheel drive concept and it started its commercial and marketing development. For many years the Audi unique selling proposal was the all wheel drive concept and this came from Piech ambition too . However Piech engineering skills and ambitions were honed while he was in Porsche where he achieved a twenty years long dream (for Ferry Porsche) of winning Le Mans. The whole story behind the 917 is  incredible and the depth of Piech personality and his role in setting "crazy" (for that time) development targets leads me to believe that he might have an emotional attachment to those times   and,bottom line , this is why I assume he might want to see Porsche taking the 1st place next year in Le Mans Anyhow just my opinion, I am very excited about Porsche return !

    I don't think that Porsche will be able to  win first time out with Audi participating. So, 2014 will be a year of acclimatization for Porsche and no one will blame them for not winning after 16 years of absence. In 2015, F. Piech could kindly ask Audi to take a sabbatical in order to facilitate a Porsche win, like it happened with the Bentley Speed 8 in 2003.

    I believe the VW Group want Porsche to return to winning LM for the prestige (and the profit from a Le Mans special model and lots of merchandise indecision ) but not at the expense of Audi. Audi's leave of absence from works participation in 2015, is the safe and also economical way for the VW Group.

    I suspect you are right. Audi's "retirement" would also take care of the diesel/ petrol equivalence debacle (at least temporarily).

    Dyson Racing is running a Mazda AER 2.0 liter, four-cylinder in-line turbocharged engine generating 500 HP  in its LMP 1 car. Engine weights about 163 lbs.  So rumor for Porsche LMP1  with a small 4 Cylinder turbo may not be too far fetched an idea.DSC_0008.JPG

    Apparently so!    4-in line. (apparently same as Audi's new DTM engine)

    I wonder if some of the tech used in the 918 would show up in the LMP car like the forged carbon and galvanized carbon parts?

    So it will be 1/2 the RS Spyders engine. Porsche can then state that the Le Mans car uses 1/2 of the 918 V8 lol. I honestly don't care about heritage with this new race car. It should be modern and make a name for this new era for Porsche.. So the more unconventional the better. It needs to win, nothing else matters. Let form follow function and have Porsche clean up the titles.. I don't care if its with 4cyl or 2 or 1 lol.

    Just to keep it real: We are still operating under "rumor" status so things may differ, but I think that we may be on the right trail. Also - I wonder if this was not the rumored 4-cylinder Turbo engine that Porsche was supposedly developing and has been rumored for months? (You know: the one that was supposed to power the entry level car)

    I don't think of there is even 1 part from RS Spyder engine... Rs Spyder engine is old as a racing engine, also none of its parts have been used with turbo and ERS, so the engine will be completely new.
