Eurosport is covering the entire race on their two channels, let´s see how it turns out. I see the LMP battle as interesting as the battles in the past between Ferrari and Ford or Porsche against Jaguar or Mercedes in the past. There is nothing else beyond that in endurance racing and the development progress is impressive if one considers the speed the current cars are able to go despite speed-reducing modifications for this year.
The GTE Pro class will be very interesting to watch as all manufacturers have at least one car with highly talented drivers at the wheel, so any difference will come down to the cars´ performances and... luck.

No Doubt -But there are somethings that "progress " has diminished. One of them is speed. (Health and Safety).
I don't know if you know that the FiA have told the ACO that the quickest average time ( for a average over a stint) should be 3"30 (the Le Mans track comes under review next year and changes may be considered in order to keep average times down)
In comparison, the quickest time set around Le Mans was a 917 at 3"13. sure it wasn't an average that they were able to keep up, and also this was before the two kinks were placed on the straight , but we are talking about the early 70's and the cars were around 500bhp only. Fantastic!
Anyway - don't get me wrong - I'll be following the LMP battles too. It's just that my Latin blood will not boil over.
My heart will be with the Felbermayr and Flying Lizards.
BTW - Super Sports (a South African tv channel which I get) will be transmitting the entire race too.

Here is an outstanding guide to Le Mans.
It clearly points to the Ferrari's, Corvettes and BMW's as the favorites to win the GTE-Pro class.
Enjoy!

Spa was another disastrous weekend for Porsche. I wouldn't read too much into that. (also there was a lot of testing going on during the race)
I think that the 997's are reaching the end of their era and are having a hard time competing with some of the opposition...on certain tracks.
It's is important to remember however, that the BMW's have been granted 32 different waivers (according to some in the know) by the ACO, so those cars had better be fast.
The 458's are very fast, but they have not yet proved that they are reliable for an entire 24h race.
The Le Mans track suits the Porsche's (usually have great top speed) so I expect them to be in quite good shape for the race.
The Felbermayr boys seem to be upbeat (and I'll be "chatting" with them throughout the race) and I feel that the #77 car stands as good a chance as anyone to win again this year.
The #80 Lizzards will be another very fast Porsche , and I expect them to be within the top 5 in Qualy and hopefully their usual bad luck at Le Mans will have finally left them. They stand an excellent chance of winning.
Speed is important at Le Mans, but speed without reliability is worth nothing at all.
Thank you very much for your insights! I'll be voting for the Lizards and of course Belgium's own Prospeed this weekend!

In the Guide, the highest performance % in GT are given to BMW. Have they ever won this class?
--"Form follows function"
Not Le Mans, but they are doing very well in the ALMS and they won the 24H at the ring last year. The "problem"is that they have been given so many waivers, that the cars are real rockets! Look like taxi cabs, but run like Ferrari's.

BTW Porker - I am intrigued by the ProSpeed entry. Holzer is a young ,quick factory driver and Goosens is very experienced. I'm not familiar with Jaap's career, but he does race Porsche's, so he should be reasonably quick.

Thanks,
this is indeed a very nice overview of this year´s competitors. Among the Audis, I rate the no. 1 car the highest as Bernhard, Rockenfeller and Dumas have the speed, experience as well as success in previous longdistance races that makes them the most promising car for me. Curious how Peugeot will perform this year, judging by their success so far and the setbacks last year they will certainly be eager to win the race this time.
Apart from some spelling mistakes, I can agree on the performance stats in the GTE class as well. As I said above, all major manufacturers feature cars with prominent and experienced drivers, I am curious though how some of the cars will fare over the distance.

van Lagen has been successful in both WTCC and GT classes, I certainly rate him as one of the very fast drivers.

I agree, they're very experienced with racing Porsches, atm they're very succesful in the Belgian GT-championship (Belcar) and Marc Goossens is incredibely experienced at Le Mans. They're still very much an underdog compared to Felbermayr (aren't they semi-works by now?) I think, but they're a very credible team imo. I wish them well!

Yes, Felbermayr is perhaps the "closest" to being a semi-works team. Lizards are the American equivalent . (or as close to it as there is in the States).
Thanks you both for the info on Jaap van Lagen. I look forward to watching their race.
