Thanks fritz - I'm not into this kind of stuff personally - but the moment I read the phrase 'strict discipline', it conjured up a mental image of a saucy classified ad along the lines of 'naughty schoolboy seeks headmistress for strict discipline' SmileySmileySmiley

You, as a F1 fan,  are thinking of Max Mosley, perhaps Smiley

    Haha Smiley

Yes, that's another case of strict discipline too - FWIW old 'Spanky Max' was not role-playing in a schoolboy-schoolteacher scenario. He was filmed being spanked by uniformed prostitutes in a prison guard fantasy role-playing session in a basement flat in London SmileySmiley

He won his case against the News of the World newspaper since they wrongly claimed it was a "Nazi-style" session - which, as the son of former British Fascist Party leader, Oswald Mosley, he was particularly sensitive about. He eventually managed to get English judges to effectively create a new privacy law that protects people against newspaper articles. Yesterday, he lost his case before the European Court of Human Rights that stated this this privacy law would have a "chilling effect on the freedom of the press".

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Mosley

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oswald_Mosley

IMvHO I find him shameless - he went on the attack against those who had revealed the depravity in his personal life. He blamed them for the ruin of his FIA career and reputation whereas IMvHO the real author of his ruin is himself.

I'm so sorry to have digressed - we should be talking about the GT3 RS 4.0 on this thread SmileySmileySmiley

I think we'll get a 997 Turbo S slantnose soon. 620 BHP, PDK-S, 2 seats, lightweight, slantnose updated for new world crash regs.  This really will be the last 997.

     Mike,

    Thanks for your good wishes.

PCNA's relationship with PAG seems weird (or at least quirky) at times and seems to be at its worst when I get interested in one of their specialty cars (CGT last time around).  I've often thought "familiarity breeds contempt" is the cause since the USA market is traditionally the largest single market for Porsche (maybe now fading).

Currency exchange-rate fluctuations between US and German markets could put lots of pressure on market planning to stick to a forecast (no matter how much in error) because PAG probably hedges the whole DE/USA intra-company transaction well before the product release is final.  Any deviations from the plan then cause nasty transfer-pricing fights between PAG bean counters and PCNA market-planning people.  That intercontinental friction overwhelms the subtleties of taking care of USA customers.

I had a conversation with Peter Schwarzenbauer (former chief of PCNA) back in May, 2005 about the inconsistencies among the different parts of the world markets for Porsche and how the internet made hiding these differences futile and counterproductive.  I told him that it seemed to me that the USA customers got much less flexibility when ordering a vehicle and were unflatteringly kept at arms length from PAG's best efforts by PCNA.  His answer was very carefully constructed, but he seemed to agree with my analysis and said that the world-wide Porsche organization needed to "better harmonize" their marketing efforts.

Same old story.  They seem to have a lot more work ahead of them in "harmonizing" their efforts.

wonder if it has something to do with the low dollar - as the price here in CH is 270k CHF - maybe they send them to markets where the profit is bigger...dunno ?

That is the '' official'' price.

A dealer in already offering  one at around CHF 231'000 . If you are interested

But I agree about your reasoning to why Mike did not get one allocated. The price difference between the countries is far too high. And it is creating many problems. For Porsche and for the clients !

tks Gnil - but I am happy with the 3.8 - although I seriously believe that the 4.0 is a collectors car. I can hardly believe a 15% reduction on something that is so sought after.....while in other countries allocations are limited.

    Re: GT3 RS 4.0

It has more to do with the starting price in CH being way to high compared to other markets.

They have to do it. The amount of grey market imports is getting so big, local dealers have now serious problems ( they can't cope with the extra service/repairs ) as it does not match their planing with the number of cars they have sold.

On a Cayenne Turbo, according the the dealer selling the RS 4.0, every customer should expect a CHF 25'000 discount.

    Re: GT3 RS 4.0

Only 28 cars coming to the UK out of 600, which is less than 5% of the run. This is despite the UK being the 3rd biggest Porsche market after Germany/USA. This is less than one car per dealer. By comparison the US is getting around 3 cars per dealer. There are a lot of very angry long-time Porsche owners here who couldn't get cars.

    Re: GT3 RS 4.0

The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is ONLY available as standard in Carrara White, with central and side decorative strips. Strips are GT metallic silver and edged with red.

The car is OPTIONALLY available in a special colour black. The wheels for this option are finished in GT Silver metallic.

You're welcome Mike. I hope the searching will be fruitful. It is a pity to heard about the relationship between the two entities.

We don't really have any issues here. Luckily everything only need authorization from one person as he is the sole importer. Not to mention he is a great person, willing to help despite the model of car you are purchasing. Our only real issues are with anything personalized. That is where things get a bit vague.

I wouldn't hold your breath for the "harmonizing" - they are in too much of a comfort zone to really be bothered. They name a price for an option and we whine about it for a bit - eventually we pay what they ask even though it's extremely exaggerated.
