    AUDI R V10 Spyder - blyfooze.com

    Hey guys,

    I just finished with the new R8 V10 Spyder here in Oman. What a fantastic vehicle! Absolutely blew me away, and for the strangest of reasons. For instance, take the open-top motoring idea that I usually detest. Me likey; take the R Tronic 'box... maybe not my preference in the coupe, but it is perfect for the Spyder.

    Thank you for an attractive piece of writing.

    Coincidentally, I had the chance to examine in detail a Spyder on the premises of the Audi importer. It was a V10 in white like your featured car, with black interior with some carbon. I loved it at first sight. Something that never happened with the coupe. Although I was very impressed  when I drove a coupe V8 model sometime ago, I wasn't attracted to it visually  and it didn't have the dose of emotion to desire one..

    The Spyder looks better proportioned and a more natural design than the coupe that looks somewhat "forced upon" as if it was designed by a committee . The Spyder combines supercar flamboyance with Germanic simplicity  in its design. The Carrera GT also had these ingredients.

    It is my dreamcar. Unfortunately, a well speced V10 Spyder costs much over €200K here

    Thanks Enmanuel, it is very kind of you to say. I will soon be leaving my position here in Oman, so I guess that could spell an end to the glamorous test drives for a while. The unrest in the region is something that, for many years, Oman has been immune to, however these days things are getting silly even in sleepy old Muscat. My wife and I have been here for almost 8 years so it is time to move on. Head back to the 'real world' so to speak!

    I still have a few things to post up on blyfooze.com, so keep checking in from time to time, or 'like' the site via a facebook page, then you will be in the loop with all of the updates!

    Reginos, it lists at about Euro 112,000.00 here in Oman - again you can nudge it higher with "exclusive" touches etc. So you are paying a good amount extra! Damned taxes eh?

    On the German configurator the car I saw would have been €180.000 incl VAT @ 19%.

    The starting price here before dealer discounts was €230.000 incl VAT @ 15%.

    Big difference due to taxes on engine size and emissions.

    Cars up to 2000 cc have minimal tax. Up to 2999cc not very prohibitive. This makes the various 3.0 lt turbodiesels attractive for someone who wants an SUV or other big car.

    Above 3000cc it is around €9 per C.C. on the total engine capacity, depending on emissions

    It's a bad thing for the pocket to be a car enthusiast here, like in some other countries too

    Great review thank you. Shame about Oman. It was a lovely place with great people. We visited during our years living in Saudi Arabia. Many happy memories of driving around the coast, seeing Sur where the Dhows are made, swimming in a sink hole in the coastal desert, sleeping at a beach where the turtles nest, having a blowout on a perilous mountain road and the wonderful town of Nizwa. It is so far removed from what you so rightly call the "real world" Good luck when you leave
