How The MB Mclaren SLR Should Have Looked At The Outset

I've always been hum drum about the SLR's styling. Never loved it - more or less tolerated it. Thought it could have been so much more.

Apparently, beyond the standard SLR and the special ed. 722 model, there was another model. The Sterling Moss Roadster. I knew nothing about this car until Kanye West images hit my feed today.

My god, this is gorgeous! Why didn't MB do this at the outset - or at least extend the range and do a hardtop model (not a big fan of roadsters).

Or even better, this should have been the styling model for the new SLS.

It's not as if MB/Mclaren had an trouble filling orders for the SLR but this would have put it on the pedestal as one of the best designs in the last decade in my opinion.

Yuck. Other than the gull wing doors, it reminds me of a Japanese version of the Pontiac Solstice.

How can somebody actually like (or drive around) in such an abomination of good taste?

Btw: The license plate is from Böblingen (Germany) and the photos have been taken in South France (I think), so the car must be some sort of rental or special loaner from Mercedes Benz Germany.

Black music stars seem to have an affinity for impressive but not always tasteful cars. When I went to see Usher and Akon in a concert in Fort Lauderdale almost a month ago, Akon drove by in a white Rolls Royce Phantom. It looked impressive but at the same time lame too, can't explain it. His clothes were also completely white and no, this was not part of the show (we watched him outside of the concert hall). However...I actually like the Rolls Royce Phantom more than the Maybach. The Maybach would be perfect...if I'm an 80 year old finance mogul who can't drive himself anymore. I know that Mr. Wiedeking had a Maybach too as his daily (chauffeur) driver but I really don't have much sympathy for this car. A AMG S class sedan would look nicer to me.

Showing up to a charity event in a rented million dollar car is pretty low, even for K. West, who's not talented nor big enough to even glance over the dash of this beautiful machine I love the car though, i just think it is way too pricy and impractical... I would never consider one, but it's a nice design exercise.

That why i said it was a rental. There's a German company in Cannes that rents super cars with German plates. They even rents you cars such as the Enzo and Veyron by the hour Smiley

As a side note (because we also have lots of swiss members here): When visiting the Usher feat. Akon concert in Fort Lauderdale, we had some cheeseburgers at the local diner before the concert started. At the table next to us was sitting....DJ Bobo and a couple of other people. We talked for a couple of minutes and I realized he is a huge Usher fan but apparently he was also looking for some ideas for future projects too. I had also the feeling that he was actually living in Florida but the conversation was too short to ask him. He was very friendly, talked to my kids too (though they didn't have a clue who this is ) and even my wife, who liked his music a couple of years ago (now she is more into Usher and Rihanna), didn't recognize him at first.

Great guy, very down to Earth.
