Re: Help me to understand - Porsche drivers

The car is a replica, you were right, guys. At least this is what my Porsche dealer told me, apparently he knows him.

@Nick: Two lane road in the city, speed limit 60 kph, I had two cars ahead of me. On the right, there were also several cars, so there was no way to change the lane and why should I have done it? The left lane was going faster at that time. Maybe you should re-read my posts and you realize that the only thing which could have provoked this guy, was my accelerating from the stop light. He was behind me, this shouldn't have bothered him anyway.

No, I'm usual no road block and if somebody wants to pass me, I have no problem with that, not even if there is a speed limit.

100% agreed with you  - but I must say, in my recent driving tour of Florida, other drivers were overtaking each other like lunatics whenever and wherever they could. Overtaking on the right was normal for them. I even saw one car overtaking another and a third car overtaking the other two at the same time! I was frankly shocked by the unsafe driving I witnessed. It's dog eat dog on the roads I travelled on.

The irony was that drivers were so particular about obeying stop signs and coming to a complete stop before turning right on a red light but in pretty much every other circumstance, unsafe driving was commonplace.

It's pretty much how American drivers, North American drivers, including Canadians, drives.

You have no idea how low the standard is to pass a driving test here,

Re: Help me to understand - Porsche drivers

Another thing - throughout my driving experience in Florida, I can't remember a single example of anyone giving me a space. I either had to 'take' what I wanted or I simply had to wait until those around me had gone, and then when no one was left, then I could do what I needed to do (e.g. change lane, make a turn etc). Here in the UK, it's normal to give other drivers a space out of courtesy - that's even in the busy centre of London!!! I was driving around central London on Sunday and the difference was really noticeable. And the traffic in London is worse than any of the traffic I saw in Florida.

Giving a space IMHO is more about mentality than driving safety. I just found that driving in Florida (especially major cities like Tampa and Miami) was so impatient, needlessly aggressive and competitive. No one was prepared to wait even 1 second more than they had to. Drivers seem more patient here even if they are just as much in a hurry.

Yep, in Florida, you need a big car(a mean looking SUV is just the right tool) and you need to force your way through. Otherwise you end up waiting for an eternity until you can make a turn or actually drive away.

It is weird, people are usually so friendly, they open the doors for other people, they are very patient when waiting in line but when it comes to driving, I get the feeling that Floridians leave their conscience(and their brains) at home.

I am not sure what you mean by giving space.Smiley Since I am a US driver, that probable makes your point.Smiley

Re: Help me to understand - Porsche drivers

An example is letting another car (that wants to change lanes) entering your lane in front of your car. It's basically letting another driver go first even though that driver doesn't have priority.

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

Re: Help me to understand - Porsche drivers

Now I understand your point. Many US drivers are not very courteous. Most feel that since they are not given "space" why should they give it?

It is unfortunate but a sad consequence of the lack of civility permeating throughout our society.Smiley

In his teen years he was probably a young, uncouth, snappy chappy trying to impress his girl in the seat beside him with his older car when some handsome guy in a nicer car upstaged him ... and he thought 'oh no, not again'
