2011 Turkish F1 Grand Prix in Istanbul

Hey guys - I'll be away till 5 May so just getting this thread up and running in good time for the Istanbul race weekend from 6-8 May Smiley

My current expectation is that Shanghai will be a near repeat of Sepang but with a 3 week interval between the races in Shanghai and Istanbul, we could see some upgrades being bolted on to the cars.

I would expect that Red Bull should have fixed their KERS system by then and that Ferrari should have fixed their DRS system by then too.

It's a threshold moment for Ferrari in my view - their season will either recover on an upward trajectory at Istanbul after the flyaway races - or it could bump along the bottom for a while longer - it all depends on how effectively they address their early technical problems.

The problem is - it's getting harder to catch Red Bull's Vettel if he keeps winning like this.

McLaren look like the only serious competition with Renault grabbing valuable points too Smiley

At the moment, it doesn't look like we will have 5 drivers still in title contention at the penultimate race and 4 drivers still in contention at the final race like we did last season.

I see this one being decided much earlier than that ... hope I'm proven wrong though Smiley

Yes, Turkey is definitely make or break for Ferrari.  However, I don't think they understand enough about the car to really start on their 2012 car yet.  If they do end up doing poorly again, I think they'll pretty much have to treat the rest of the season like a big test session; they'll be able to understand their car and, more importantly, the Pirelli tires, more in depth.  Fingers crossed for the Scuderia.

That is not going to make Alonso happy at all, but Massa is another story.

Massa would love to proof Ferrari wrong and he should be the #1 or at least equal to Alonso, not second to him.

If Ferrari does throw in the towel, I expect Massa to try really hard to out do Alonso for the rest of the season.

Re: 2011 Turkish F1 Grand Prix in Istanbul

if Massa isn't already trying as hard as he humanly can then he shouldn't be in F1 anymore, especially after his last season performance.Massa has never been a top driver so unfortunately for him against someone like Alonso, it doesn't matter how hard he tries.

Massa to Alonso is like Irvine (remember him?) to M. Schumacher. He could capitalize on some of Alonso's mishaps, but not outrace him over a whole season.

On a different subject, I wonder if those Lotuses are still going to be as quick. They are showing surprisingly good race pace, except they need better drivers.

    Alonso lives

How much lower can Schumacher get?

    Indeed... what a surprising race!

Would love to see those overtaking manouvres without the help of moving wings and the like but better than nothing. Thrilling race performance from several drivers, the most consistent one must have been Vettel´s. Webber recovered during the race again, quite surprising that he cannot show the same performance in qualifying and the first few laps. Schumacher´s actions on the track seem to speak louder since he is not the leading car anymore...

Re: 2011 Turkish F1 Grand Prix in Istanbul

I recorded the race and didn't FFW once, that's always a good sign. Great race, but the combo Vettel / RBR looks unbeatable this season.

Re: 2011 Turkish F1 Grand Prix in Istanbul

Agreed - Vettel looks unbeatable right now - he is dominating qualification which makes it easier for him to drive off out of sight during the race since he has the best car.

DRS is making it too easy for my taste to overtake. Schumi should retire soon. He is looking out of place - he has achieved everything - coming back for fun - but he doesn't look like he is enjoying it - so what's the point?

Webber should retire unless he is happy to remain a secondary team mate.

Good to see Ferrari fight back - great drive from Alonso.

He could claim that his old neck injury is nagging him again and needs to skip an indefinite number of GPs, until he feels better.  He could save face in this way Smiley
