scud:
ordered a GL500 start of april, was told yesterday august build with end of september delivery.
does anyone know if this is normal?
6 months is a long time.
it's not like a new ferrari model with a lot of orders.
Can't they locate one for you in another showroom? unless you're going for a special color.

Yes, these cars had a few standard specification packages depending on the market. So if you wanted to mix spec from these packages, it was a special order procedure and a long wait. I remember one of the things I wanted was the rear differential lock which was standard only on the LWB package whilst the SWB model package had a LSD. Also things like automatic gearbox and cruise control were available but had to be on special order. This car served me very well so it was worth the wait.

I know, they are hardcore.
I pulled boats of various sizes on trailers from the sea with the car wheels inside the water, on deep sand or loose stones and at a slope.
Once I pulled going backwards in reverse gear a Audi S6 (ambitious saloon AWD driver) that fell in a ditch on a very sloping mountain road, covered with ice and snow, without chains.
I don't know if the Cayennes, BMW Xs etc. can do similar things but with the Mitsubishi you also don't care if the car is little scratched or even slightly damaged because it is a basic workhorse. The handling of the Short WB model was very good too with 3 position adjustable dampers.
