I've not got any firm details but I ordered one today on behalf of my father to replace his 730d. The dealer says it will be their first customer car and they anticipate it arriving in June or possibly July. They are still awaiting official confirmation of the model but have been given an indication of a base price in the UK of £62k incl tax so it's comparable to the V6 in that respect. I'm assuming/hoping it will come with the 8 speed auto as standard like the Cayenne diesel does.
I just heard that Porsche is testing a V8 Diesel (bi-turbo charged) with close to 400 horses but in the end, the production car will have something close to 360 hp. Not sure if this is the same engine AMS mentions (they mention a V6 TDi) but Porsche is surely going for a very powerful Diesel.
I also heard about a second Diesel engine for the Panamera, a V6 with something around 260 hp. Not sure which one of the both is going to be in the "real deal".

Just been talking with my dealer again and the 8 speed auto is standard fit in the diesel. It also has very low emissions (good news for our emissions based road tax system) and achieves around 40 MPG, 7.06ltrs per 100 km.
The Panamera hybrid is due at the same time I'm told.

NO V8 - to heavy - bad weight placement - .... - to expensive - to much consumption - bad CO2 values - ...!
V6 diesel!
Hi!
Six weeks ago I changed from Cayenne S to BMW X6 40d ( 306hp ) and I could not be happier. More power than 385hp from Cayenne S.
Close as fast from 0-100 but faster on all daily situations ( 50-90 , 80-140 and so on ).
And the best : Instead of 20 liters per 100km I need only 11.2 liters - that´s about 45 % less consumption.
If Porsche would had such an engine a half year ago maybe I would have not changed to BMW.
Best regards
Gregor
There are indications of a revised V6 diesel engine from Audi with around 300hp. I would not be surprised if this is the exact same engine that will be used in the Panamera, as it would perfectly fit in terms of the power-to-weight ratio.
I believe Kreso mentioned that this engine will debut in the new Audi A6.
Found this on the web this morning, here it is explained why there will be no 4 wheel drive. This make sence to me, I never realized that the V6 is different in the Panamera compaired to the Cayenne. This is also why there is a 8 speed transmission and not a PDK.

Cayenne = VW V6
Panamera = Porsche V8 less 2 cylinders. VW V6 too tall for lower Panamera bonnet.
Porsche found this in-house solution for the Panamera since they had a V8 already.
But for diesel they have to rely on VW engines for now at least.

If only VW let Porsche uses the Audi V12 TDI in the Panamera...........That's a fitting engine for a diesel Porsche.
It would drive like a fat pig - not a Porsche!
If diesel, then only a V6 like BMW has. We need little more then 300 hp in a Panamera diesel. For me a diesel fits better then a NA V6.

Oh, come on, think of it, 500hp 750lb-ft diesel Porsche Panamera. being labeled GREEN driving a diesel!!! especially IF Porsche use green color label on the diesel wording.
It might handled like a pig on a race track, but outside of a race track on real roads, it would be good enough, especially from Porsche. Look no farther than the Cayenne.

For drag racing
I had once a Touareg V10 TDI - some times I thought the car will fall apart when accelerating - the torque was so huge. Even more brutal the AUDI Q12 but don´t try to drive around a corner.
What about a Panamera S Diesel, with the new V6 3.0tdi 313hp?
