Well, at least they are honest enough to write:

Hi Gauss, you're sure it's not a repost ? I'm just thinking because the "new record" is from April 2010, not April 2011 Smiley

Maybe you're just a bit tired from the Easter weekend ? Smiley Judging from the myriads of dead insects on your black machine you must have done dozens of laps Smiley Unfortunately I could only spot the car, not the pilot yesterdaySmiley What a great day it has been yesterday with the 24h variant of the track Smiley

Back to topic: even if the video does not show a "new" record (maybe even no record at all, because nobody knows exactly what a production-derived car is Smiley) I very much enjoyed watching it again Smiley

Doh, you're right PJ, it's an old video Smiley Sorry about that SmileyI'll change the subject.

Yes it was a great Easter weekend at the Ring. Friday was the craziest day by far. It felt like driving the 24h race with the sheer amount of spectators.  Smiley Unfortunately I couldn't make it on Monday. How's the new rollcage? Does it encourage you to go even faster now? Smiley

Apologies for drifting Off topic a bit, but since it's an "old" topic I'm sure you guys don't mind. Smiley

    Gauss:

Nothing to be sorry about, Gauss - it's a great inboard footage of a very fast lap anyway and I need my daily dose of these Smiley
I thought I did warn you about the infamous "Carfriday", no ? The new rollcage's primarily aim is to calm down the wife, not to improve laptimes (the added weight doesn't help anyway) Smiley

With the new cage, new brakes (pedal feel of the Endless pads is somewhat different from the RS29) and a fresh alignment (I was shocked to hear that the corner balance was way off...Smiley) I did not push yesterday Smiley.

    PJ,

did you get the full rollcage or the rear part solely? Say hello to your wife... Smiley

    Ferdie:

Hi Ferdie Smiley The rear part is enough to calm down the wife - at least for now Smiley No seriously: I think it adds to the safety in the unlucky case that the car rolls in an accident - especially if you use bucket seats plus six point harness (guess that's the reason why the CS comes like this out of the factory).

The front part certainly adds even more safety in case of frontal crashes or a heavy Datsun crashing into the side of your car Smiley. I have seen quite a number of 911 heavily damaged on the track and I was always impressed how stable the driver's cell is, hence I decided against the front part of the roll cage - would be a different story if'd participate in competitive racing where the probability of a competitor crashing into your side ("that was my corner !!!" Smiley) is much higher.

Thanks for the nice wishes - will forward them to the wifey. BTW it's time again for a cold one in a nice beergarden Smiley

Re: Ferrari 599XX sets new record on the Nürburgring

I was under the impression that such a dedicated tracktoy came in CS edition already but seem to recall that this was not the case. Next step would be to clear out the interior.

Yes, would be great to meet up soon. Am quite frequently in your region lately.

Did the corner balance change as a result of fitting the roll-cage maybe?

(I don't mean because of a difference in weight distribution, but due to the body shell being distorted by the cage).

Hi fritz Smiley Actually the corner balance was already off before fitting the roll-cage. O.K. - we cheated a bit on my body weight, but only 5 kg Smiley ....and the balance was off by a high multiple of that 5 kg Smiley

The mere imagination of the car's body shell getting distorted that much by fitting a roll-cage (mind you: only the simple original Porsche CS thingie) sounds scary to me Smiley

Re: Ferrari 599XX sets new record on the Nürburgring

This video put a smile to my face.

Hi, PJ how far is the NBR from Duesseldorf? I think in about 3 months time I should be able to go hunt for a E30 or E36 track toy. I have decided not to insure and run a daily in Germany because i simply do not need it. What I do need is a track toy i can run for little money and take out for the occasional spin

Re: Ferrari 599XX sets new record on the Nürburgring

Hi Atz, here's the good news: it takes only 70 minutes - and here's the bad news: it takes only 70 minutes Smiley

E30 and E36 track toys are extremely popular amongst the 'Ring addicts - there's a huge market for these cars. I'd be happy to introduce you into the Ring Bimmer scene if you like - I know some of these guys Smiley

    Danke,
    Aaron
