for this kind of cars, who cares which one is 0,1 sec faster or slower, you will not anyway get into a track or???

so for me it's the look and the sound that is the factor that make me choose , so without any doubt the maserati stands alone in an other class, it is a really beauty I think the most beautiful cabriolet right now ( drophead apart)

If we are to believe  the Autocar magazine, the Maserati has glaring weaknesses in fit & finish, rigidity and suspension dynamics  that can become evident during normal road driving and  ownership. Nothing to do with track driving or acceleration runs.

Unless someone buys the Maserati as an object to only look at (and gain public attention), I believe such drawbacks will become very irritating very soon into ownership of this car.

    Then don't get one.

Relatively, very few people worldwide want to get one.

That's not true at all. The car is doing very well especially in the US.

I agree with the above that these cars are driven entirely different than a closed-roof sportscar. First of all, these cars are seen as GTs rather than all-out sportscars. This is amplified by the higher weight and less competent handling.

The 911 convertible and Boxster are simply more versatile than the competition, whether this is preferred over emotion is up to the individual buyer.

In 2010 Maserati delivered 5,675 cars to their network of dealers  (not to customers). Out of these 1,964 were GranCabrios in 9-10 months; the car was introduced in 03/2010. GranTurismo  managed 2,259 units.

These are not fantastic figures bearing in mind that the Maserati range is not in the very limited numbers exotic, supercar or even supersport segment. Given the type of their cars Maserati should have a wider appeal. In their segments they are consistently and heavily outsold by more humble brands like BMW and Mercedes. True, these cars are cheaper than Maserati,  but at the same time they are not cheap as such. IMO buyers just cannot justify the extra cost of a Maserati for less quality and less technology.

Even in the considerably larger limousine segment Maserati just managed to deliver 1,452 Quattroporte worldwide in 2010.

BTW Maserati was outsold internally even by Ferrari which achieved 6,461 sales to end customers.

Maserati Sales Spike 48 Percent in 2010 as GranTurismo Convertible Sells Out

Maserati, a Fiat SpA luxury brand, has found new life with the GranTurismo Convertible that drove sales up 48 percent in the U.S. this year through November.

Maserati sold a total of 1,717 vehicles in the U.S., including 558 of the four-seat convertibles since its introduction in March, according to Autodata Corp., a Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey-based researcher. The GranTurismo Convertible starts at $136,000, according to Edmunds.com, a website that tracks new car sales.

    Maserati U.S. sales grow 49% in 2010

Led by a significant increase in sales of the new GranTurismo Convertible, Maserati sales exploded in 2010, up 49% compared to 22% growth in the ultra-premium market segment.

Even though the market for high-end convertibles contracted by 12.8% in 2010, the GranTurismo, with its base price of $136,300, delivered strong results, accounting for a third of Maserati’s 1,897 sales in 2010.

Sales of the GranTurismo Coupe rose 4.5% during 2010 even while the market shrank 9.5 percent.

The only model to come up short was the Quattroporte, which faced more competition in 2010. Compared to 2009, Quattroporte sales were down 24 units or 4.1 percent.

Anyway, the figures are there to see and each can draw his conclusions.

Gran Cabrio has a one year waiting list in the US no?

Re: Test of super-cabrios in Autocar

The SL had aged so well UNTIL they put this SLS-like face on it , which , IMO, turned it from a classy , overall balanced decade old design into a car with its incongruously modern  " aggressive " face transplanted  from some anonymous Opel - maybe that is a reason I have rarely seen a new one on the road around here in the past  yr or two.

The Maserati interior looks terribly. Very dated. Nice exterior in coupe form, but that's about it. It's in desperate need of a new model.

On the Maser coupe ( though very attractive overall ) , the apex of the roofline has an odd " helmet head " radius  , as viewed from the side , similar to a Cayman.

Yes, how this last facelift spoiled the SL Smiley

They should sue the designer for bad taste.

Kinda true about the SL.2 agreed. I still love it proportionally in this segment.

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

Re: Test of super-cabrios in Autocar

well. the maser is a beauty in my opinion, and from what I can see it is the only with bmw that have 4 seats, so when people writes that in normal uses the 911 are better and more usable, ??????!!!!!!!!!!!!..the 911 is a better car and we all know, but more usable????? try to fit 2 adults in the rear seats! impossible.

anyway I will try one soon and let you know

Re: Test of super-cabrios in Autocar

From this group of cars the only one worth buying (as opposed to admiring) is the BMW.

Fresh car with very modern technology with all the right ingredients of speed, stability, safety, reliability, after sales back up at a reasonable price. Other people might snub and say  "Oh it's just a BMW....!", but you know you've made the smart choice.

You really seem to hate the maserati brand

Re: Test of super-cabrios in Autocar

Hate? Not at all. I'm just sad they cannot make their cars more complete and more capable. They concentrate too much on the styling, I think but this is not enough given the competition that exists.
