Along with the Evora and the new 6 series? Seems a bit harsh; an article to get people riled more than anything.
While I'm not a fan of the California styling, I do appreciate that Ferrari has made each of their cars different (eg. the FF ). That takes some design courage IMO, much more than the larger manufacturers who are boring us with their Russian doll look-alikes (just pick the shrink factor...).

It's not an ugly car design wise at all. That's just a moronic statement. I can think of uglier cars, most all American designs and almost the entire Asian output with only a few exceptions.
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)
I'm not a Ferrari fanboy and we could seriously discuss the California weight and price tag but the design is beautiful, the California is a gorgeous car, I love it. Maybe not my type of car, I prefer the 458 or even the 430 but to say that the California is ugly is a lie or a provocation.
Regarding the Evora: It is a typical Lotus, which is actually a compliment, this is not an ugly car.
Regarding the BMW 6series: A bit boring, true but I can't see any ugliness in this car?!
Apparently some websites are looking for attention, nothing more, nothing less. Stupid.

Those guys live in the suburbs of LA where Honda cars are everywhere, so maybe their vision has become impaired.
These are the same people who paid money to park a brand new Nissan Juke in their garage. The Juke is no design winner unless a jury was on mescaline.
These same Edmunds.com auto experts bought a 1985 911 with a salvage title and a dented gas tank (!) and believed its owner when he told them that a 85 911 had a top speed of only 127mph.
I think you can look elsewhere and find better editorial and advice. They are too fond of cars that look like melting baseball caps, dented Miatas and or cars with stereos that have a lot of flashing blue lights.

IMO, the media is in the doldrums...as there is nothing really to report and what better way to bridge to gap to, say, the Frankfurt Motorshow in September, with such a (stupid) article. I have seen two California in red and dark-grey yesterday cruising in Frankfurt and both looked stunning.
intouch1:
would it have an alfa badge, it would've received much more acceptance.
Well...development started as a Maserati as far as I heard.
The California is beautiful but I can understand why F430/F458 lovers don't like it.
This doesn't mean though that the California is ugly, this is ridiculous.

Because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Personally I think the front of the California is quite nice, reminiscent of older Ferrari models. But the rear - due to the folding hard top - is really ugly.

Some statistical study done here in South Florida came up w/ the conclusion that 10-15% of the drivers at any given time were chemically impaired by ethanol, prescription drugs, or non-prescription drugs. So I expect that there may in fact be automotive juries somewhere that are on mescaline......

Which brings me to Rossi and his comment about the California.
C'mon guys, read about the definition of ugly. You can turn it as you please but the California never falls into this category. You can call it unpleasant to the eye, not perfect, not my style, whatever but ugly? No way.
This is ugly.
or this
Not this

I am sorry RC The funky exhaust, the rear, the large horizontal placed coca cola bottle (called rear light), the "almost" square (seen from behind) and large hips, etc DO NOT appeal to me. 90% of time we share the same impressions but sorry, not this time.
I have different expectations from a Ferrari or from a Maserati or from a Alfa Romeo. IMO they need to "scream" passion. This one can be re-badged easily as a Lexus.
There is no try. Just do.

It pains me to say that I agree with you on this

RC, since you are good at splitting, how about try the next challenge? Fuse some atoms
Then I could finally afford some bad ass sports car with crazy ass power and a jaw braking chassis.

Well, I can only wish your dream came true and you take me for a Ring lap or two
There's a much easier way: just ask Mike.
