ClosePer Autoblog, looks like BMW is going to cater to the US 'manly' buyers who wants wants to shift themselves with the manual transmission option.
Seriously, are the US buyers stuck in last century? Did they even realize the world has moved on dual-clutch is the future?

Last gen M5's V10 was developed with the gearing ratio of the SMG in mind, the 6-speed manual that was added later was just an off the shelf unit with gearing all wrong, negatively affecting performance.
This time same thing is going to happen, there isn't a unit that would be a good match to the engine's performance, BMW is just going to put another off the shelf unit in the car, with the stronger engine I won't be surprised if BMW limit the engine output to protect the gearbox in the manual version, but at least the broad torque curve of the new twin turbo V8 is going to mask the unmatched gearbox's deficit.
Since the world has moved onto faster shifting SMG and dual clutch gearboxes, no one is really developing manuals anymore, there really isn't a strong gearbox that can stand modern high output engines, especially for the high low end torque output of big capacity turbo engines.

Are you saying there was a manual 6speed version made for the M5 V10 ???????? Or did I get you wrong??? I never heard that 
Well regarding Porsche, they actually have stronger manual versions than auto, just looks how much power the GT2RS makes with a manual box? And I´m sure it can stand +800Hp without any worries, something PDK can´t.

Sad isn't it, this is why I stay with Porsche.
Like J. Seven said, the manual in GT2RS can still handle more hp than what the stock engine offers.
The day when Porsche stop making manual will be the day I stop smiling when I drive.
On the road or track, I will take a slower manual car over a faster auto/smg/pdk car any day. But I can appreciate in real races for prize and money, the faster transmission car is preferred.

BMW did mate a 6speed with the E60 M5, but it was only for the North American market. Same deal this time around, North American markets only again.
The 6speed version of the E60 has a lowered redline to protect the gearbox, traction control also cannot be switched off to protect the clutch, in another words, the manual version was a neutered one.
Transmission ratings are limit by torque, not HP.
Regarding Porsche's manual transmissions, Porsche is not a high volume maker, their highest output, specifically torque output engines are putting down 700Nm, pretty much still within spec for the Getrag box, another thing is, 911 weights a lot less than big sedans like M5, even at the same torque output, there will still be less stress on the transmission on the Porsches.

I´m not doubting you, but it´s almost hard to believe BMW did such thing, having a manual box on this beast wih lower RPM limit and you can´t swicth off the TC is like dropping an autobox with three gears only, in a Lotus, it simply doesn´t make any sence.

To be fair to (North) Americans; some of the pressure to offer the M5 as a 6M was from potential owners concerned about the reliability, or driveability, of the SMG box... initial testing, and owner experience did suggest that these early SMG units did have issues on both these fronts. I suspect these mixed owner opinions are partly why Porsche spent far more time in honing the PDK via testing, before finally releasing it.

There were many SMG blowing when this car came out, is this problem already solved or is it risky to buy a second hand M5V10?

I think that for the first time in a while i disagree. The M5 is the kind of car you have for two reasons. 1. either you have other sportscars and want your daily driver to have power but still be usable and comfortable, a car where you can relax but still have pull when you need it. And 2. because you can't (for some reason) have 2 cars and would rather cover your bases with just one, again sometimes you're going to need it to be more usable than fun and here an auto comes in handy.

I understand the M5 serves the niches you describe mate, but it's enough of a sports car for me to want it in manual no matter what..
We're car enthusiasts here, our daily's can/should be manuals as well 
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

For sure its nice they keep manual gearbox as an option, but despite I like manual gearbox, I would never choose it in M5. Manual fits better into sports cars or smaller (sportier) coupes IMO.
About M5 press release.. I don't know about 1. april, but last time I heard it will be in first or second week of April. That means this or next week if information is correct..
BMW will reportedly premiere the M5 Concept at a private press event near Munich on April 1st followed by its public debut at Auto Shanghai a few weeks later.

M5 will be back from the very beginning unfortunately
.....and the security of 4WD on the Panamera Turbo S.
I expect the M5 to be cheaper to buy,though.
