Does the Carrera GTS have the sport chassis and LSD?
Yes.BTW, in same issue BMW 650i Cabrio crushed Maser GranCabrio in HHR. Almost 2 s faster! 1.15,6min for 650i Cabrio-not bad for 2092kg cabrio...
I'd be surprised if a car from the "Ferrari Surplus Store" was faster than the latest BMW.

The 991 needs to up the game significantly, then.

Any time below 1:13 min. is actually pretty good. Actually any time below 1:14.
Don't forget that we are talking about street cars here, not race cars.
It is no surprise that the mid engined Cayman R does best on this short and curvy track.

Nice. So, I guess the Cayman R had a 6spd Manual?

RC,
Do you have time of GT3 or RS for comparison? Thanks.
1.09,6 min - 997.2 GT3 RS
1.10,4 min - 997.2 GT3
Both cars had semi-slicks(Cup tires) while the Cayman and the other Porsches tested had ordinary street tires. Just saying...

Would you guess that the Cups are worth at least 2 sec on that course?

...I would not rule out that this could be the case... - Hockenheim is "the" playground for mid-engine cars as the course is - as RC said - very curvy... I usually see a lot of spirited boxster and cayman drivers giving GT3s a very hard time in Hockenheim...the result of the respectable time of the "R" is attributable aaaaaaaaaaa lot to the combination of curves in Hockenheim...I am so much looking forward to my first training in Hockenheim beginning of April and do wonder whether I will already see a Cayman R...

no way, that would put the Caymen R on par with the 997.2 GT3
I know it sounds hard to believe, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Cup tire advantage was 3 sec. Having driven on a short/curvy track not too different than Hockenheim in my 944 Turbo S with Cups made my laptimes 4 seconds shorter (but the tire sizes were larger with the Cups, so not exact comparison).

i dont think the time for the cayman is trustable.
the cayman s pdk did 1:13,90 in sport auto test and now the cayman r pdk ist 1,5 s faster with only 10 hp more and 50 kg less ?
The Cayman R that did the faster time is 6spd Manual, so it's 30kg lighter than a Cayman R with PDK.

Impressive times for all but GTS performance is really amazing 13,8s to 200Kph is almost to good to be true, and makes me think the 991 will have aceleration close to 997TT.1

It is amazing but I heard that the 408 hp powerkit engines have a high fluctuation in power output, so maybe this one had close to 430 hp and others were slightly under 400 hp. Could explain the huge difference.

Such a big discrepancy between max and min is absolutely untypical for Porsche.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

Christian,
This is an interesting info. 13,8 sec is an amazing time for a 408-hp 911, indeed.
Your info explains the reason of slower GTS times.
