    Nice side by side!

Which one do you like more?

In this view...I like the McLaren

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

I like both of them very much, but in this pic the McLaren look better. In fact the 458 almost looks bland next to it.

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

they are both stunning cars, I would have serious doubts i could actually pick one. It's a toss up

    --

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

I would go for the car on the right side, seems to be the real deal...a Mclaren F1, isn'it?

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

    The Italia all the way!!

458 for me too, MP4-12C is the one that looks bland to me.

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

There's another shot from these two and in this one I actually like the 12C better. Smiley

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

C'mon, this is like comparing lemons to oranges. Can we get a more equal comparison please : )

Although neither design makes me want to go run and grab my checkbook, on pure visual aesthetics alone I'd take the 458.

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

To me the McLaren's front looks already outdated in all the pictures, like from a car made 5-7 years ago

Exactly .......a "lemon" Ferrari and an "orange" McLarenSmiley

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

I prefer the looks of the McLaren.

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

I was very impressed by the Mclaren after Chris Harris review for EVO. However, I would still prefer 458 İtalia, not yellow though.

I wouldn't say that far back, but the design doesn't look as if it will have "legs".

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

    Test values for the McLaren:

    0-100 kph in 3.1 seconds

0-200 kph in 8.9 seconds (absolutely amazing!)

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

I don't think one looks significantly better or worse than the other. Both have aesthetically good and bad points to my eyes, especially at the rear.

Most people would pick the Ferrari styling because of the long heritage of this illustrious name not because it looks better.

For me the best styled M-E supercars of the modern era are:

    • Gallardo if you want drama and flamboyance
    • Carrera GT if you want a more organic and elegant design.

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

The McLaren MP12-4C is one of my favorite sports cars right now, you can't get more performance for so "little" money.

Not sure about service, maintenance, etc. though, I hope McLaren does a good job here.

These are the claimed values by McLaren which hasn´t been independently tested, right ? Looking forward to magazine tests.

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

I actually thought that 3.3 seconds and 9.1 seconds are the official values.

These seem like the 0-60 and 0-120 mph manufacturer claims. Since this is McLaren though, let's wait for some independent tests... Smiley

3,3s and 9,1s are official times with normal tires. 3,1s and 8,9s are official times with corsa tires.

    Re: F458 and McLaren MP12-4C

I don't expect McLaren to overestimate performance. They are a very engineering led organisation to play with figures.

The problem I'd expect is reliability for real users. Too many unique, new and untested vital components on this car. Unless of course like most cars of its type the new McLaren will spend the biggest part of  its life in a garage and when used it will be a 6/10 of its potential.

    That is correct.

RC, I am not sure that magazines have run numbers yet. Or have they?

As far as designe, the Macca is pretty bland but pretty, not amazing looking. Just safe design shall we say.

The Fezza has more presence, the rear is fabulous, the profile superb but personally, I hate the front with those ridiculous moustache (active aero) and those terrible diodes.

They used the same on the FF and am afraid it is some sort of Ferrari signature now on new models, how awful. Looks like bad japanese design.

BTW , off topic but tyres do matter so much.

I know I brag a lot about the CGT tyres, the car achieved 7min30 at the NS.

Michelin engineer last friday at val de vienne told me with the new supersport, it could easily gain between 10 and 15 seconds. I find that it is a lot, but it didn't come from me...

Those incidents were down to individuals. Coughlan and wife and ex- Ferrari Stepney in spygate and Hamilton in liargate. I believe McLaren as an organisation are not crooked.
