    Awesome trackday

    Hello All,

Since my last visit, I bought a few toys, this time for the track, I really intend to go racing seriously. So I bought a 2009 GT3 Cup and 2010 430 Challenge, both second hand, pretty good deals, perfect to learn and practive.

The cup is fantastic, very different from the GT3 RS road car, more raw, a lot lighter, proper sequential gearbox which takes a bit of getting used to.

The Challenge is more like the Scuderia, a  lot softer than the Cup and easier to drive but a great car nonetheless, not as fast though, in the hand of a proper racing driver.

I rented the track of Val de Vienne in France last Friday with a few friends and it was epic, rain, dry, click tyres, wet tyres.

I took my Turbo S on the track for a few laps to learn the trajectories and this car seriously amazes me, so rounded, so quick, it felt faster then my friend's GTO and probably is actually.

I also brought my 1967 910 getting ready for the Tour Auto.

Some friends brought some serious toys too, 599XX, GT2RS, 430 GT2, the one that Joe Macari and Adrian Newey drove at Le Mans in 2007, both top guys and proper petrolheads!

I have  a few nice shots.

I you have any questions, fire up!

    Cheers!

    Re: Awesome trackday

My 430 Challenge. If you remember, I owned a Scuderia for a while and it was a real sausage. The Challenge is a lot better although still quite soft.

The XX looks awesome, sounds even better, fantastic car, but heavy, over 1500 kgs!Smiley

    Amazing V12 though!!!

    Re: Awesome trackday

The GTO is a great road car, way too heavy for trackwork, but looks and sounds great too. Too close to the original 599 IMO, and doesn't deserve the GTO label, but a great GT car.

    Re: Awesome trackday

This was my third day with the cup, what a car, ok, I'm a porsche guy, but this is truly amazing, very difficult to drive fast, very snappy, but once you get it, it's a weapon!

Sadly, my gearbox broke early, the flywheel. Those gearboxes are notorious for the fragility actually.Smiley

    Re: Awesome trackday

My 910 is still fantastic, and actually, probably the purest and most fun to drive. It was mostly fine tuning for the Tour in a couple of weeks. What  a raw car!!!!

We have pushed the 2L flat 6 to its limits: 250 hp for 650 kgs!!!!!!!!!!Smiley

Only downside is the safety aspect, tubular chassis, fibreglass body, you really have to be carefull and below the limit.Smiley

The GT2 RS is a freak of engineering. This car shouldn't exists! Such performance with road tyres license plates, amazing!

And aircon, and GPS, etc.! Simply bonkers!!!

    Re: Awesome trackday

Over 7000 km on my Turbo S now. This car is the ultimate GT for me, comfortable, silent, discreet and quicker than just about anything in the real world with real conditions.

And yet, capable on the track too!

    FABULOUS!!!

GT2RS has less than 400 km on the clock and on its second trackday.

    Perfect break in procedure!!!!Smiley

A great day overall, some mechanical problems, some spins, some damages, but that's part of the training.

    Cheers guys!

Truly wonderful stable you've created, thanks for sharing! Any idea how the GT2 RS and the Turbo S compare on a wet track?

     Thanks Porker.

Re Wet track, not sure, I'd say probably the Turbo with its all wheel drive system and better tyres for wet conditions.

The Michelin Cup tyres don't perform very well in the wet. My Turbo S has the Bridgestone and they're pretty impressive on the wet.

    Re: Awesome trackday

OMG these aren't just toys you have here... they are full blown track monsters!!! I am blown away, what a fantastic day. You guys don't mess about, those are serious toys. Lovely photos.

Your 910 made my day, what a stunning car, do you have some interior shots??

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

    Re: Awesome trackday

Seems logical, although in my experience the Cups manage pretty well in the rain if you get some heat in them (which might have been hard at this time of year). I assume the RS is quite a handful in the wet too...

Amazed about the weight of the XX, how can a car that heavy clock such a blistering laptime at the Nordschleife

    Re: Awesome trackday

What a fantastic day it must of been, thanks for the pictures and comparative insights

Over one lap at the nordschleife, power, aero and tyres matter more than weight.

    XX is on slicks remember.

It's the one major drawback with the challenge car, not aero, it's the body as the Scud and it feels it, understeer!Smiley

I know, shame on me. I try to keep it as discreet as possible, I wish I had more time to post on Rennteam, it's a busy life out there.

Some great discussions on cars with Adrian Newey on that day too, the guy's a legend and so low key. Extremely helpful and interesting to talk car dynamics and engineering with him.

Funny to hear about F1 stories from the inside. Let's just say the 2011 season should be very interesting!
