Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

ECU tunes his car increasing HP to 550. He then proceeds to annihilate just about every car on the road including a 458. My question is this. "What does it cost to ECU tune a Turbo car and what is the downside to doing so?"

It would seem to me there would be warranty issues but by chipping the car it is a monster with little or no competition. Is it is worth the trade off? Why buy a TTS?Smiley

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

Hey Nick, you don't want to annihilate a 458, do you?

Seriously, I think chip tuning a car always affects warranty. I could imagine doing that in a five year old Golf GTI for example, but not so sure about doing it to a more or less brand new Porsche Turbo. Also I think the standard Porsche Turbo should already deliver something like 520 hp, whereas the TTS is said to have something like 550 hp.

And if I was ever thinking about chip tuning a car like a Porsche Turbo, I would consider extremely carefully which company it should do it.

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

"nberry"  Do you talk about it?

in this video start 3º gear 120/130km/h to 6º gear +300km/h

and  here start 2º gear 70/80km/h to 6º gear 270/280km/h, but here the 458 starts first me

the datasheet from 997 TT PDK 2010 are:
    stock: 500 Hp/710 Nm
    tuned: 551 Hp/800 Nm

these gains were just with pure software, no mechanical parts exchange!!!
the tuned software used on my 997 TT PDK was made on Powerful Motorsports.
They work with a few companies from Europe that makes the chiptuning setup developement

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

and i have "videos of my Turbo PDK ecu tuned" vs SLS AMG, vs GT-R P750, vs GT-R 600hps, vs 997TT MK1 560hps and 996TT  650hps, Z06 570hps  AND vs 997TT PDK STOCK AND 997 PDK TURBO "S"!!Smiley

i don´t belive in "TUNNERS", I BELIVE IN THE RESUTS OF SIDE BY SIDE!!!

maybe my next side by side will be a ZR1 stock!!!

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

What did the tuning cost? Any downside?

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

    Nick,

Almost half of Porsche turbos in my region of the world are somewhat tuned and driven hard on daily basis with no problems. German cars in general can withstand 10-20% increase in hp without major issues. It will shorten the life of your turbos in most cases but we are again talking about 10-20% less longevity. From my own personal experience most Porsche tuners outsource their ECU tuning to a handful of German reprogramers and claim its done in house (not too sure about RUF).

As far as warranty is concerned, most middle east dealers including Porsche regional office turn a blind eye to this type of modifications unless of course you go overboard with engine part replacement.

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

Nick tuning ecu is the most basic tuning for Turbos, no problem!!!

see the side by side of my Turbo PDK 550hps vs Turbo PDK STOCK 500hp!!

start 3º gear 120km/h to 6º gear 322km/h and see the difference of performance!!

the cost is U$2500, the price is very very cheap for the results!!!!

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

Interesting! Shortening the life of the turbos by 10-20% is no big deal considering the car is being turned in after a couple of years or when the new turbo is introduced.

BTW, $2500 is a small price to pay for the substantial improvement in performance. Sadly, since my wife drives the car I doubt she will want any changes to improve performance. She uses a fraction of what is available. Smiley

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

Nick, I would not do it. Why? There is a 10% chance that something will go totally wrong. Are you willing to risk it? For what kind of pleasure... IMHO you are not Charlie Sheen kind of person... Do not take me wrong here.

BTW, I also think that our Brazilian friend 997.2 Turbo produce way more then 550hp. I send link from his posts here to my P source and her responded with"...zirka 560ps-580ps..." based on his videos.

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

Kreso, I do not plan to do anything. However, I was intrigued by the substantial improvement of performance of his car by utilizing a chip.

Re: Our Brazilian poster who owns a 997TT MK11

     ecu + exhaust= different car.

Strongly recommend it, P cars are overengineered and very restricted from the factory (mainly for marketing/commercial reasons). +10-15% hp and torque is really no big deal. A very large % of turbo owners have been doing it for years on the 997 platform and the knowhow now on these engines is very advanced. Hint; if you deristrict that factory installed turbo intake pipe (ie carbon pipes) as well as exhaust side and just recalibrate the ecu for the new & better flow you would get hp/torque/ better response and actually probably better thermodynamic efficiency than stock..

Warning; if you go down that path there is a risk you ll get hooked and find most other sportcars somewhat "empty" to drive afterwads. The feeling of 800nm torque is sth that you can only feel in a porsche turbo car and is known to be addictive to some!

PS this is how porsche has been churning sales from the 996 era, slowly destricting the GT1 engine all the way from 420 to 620hp (GT2 RS)

my car vs Z06 570hps + 100hps NITRO, this Vette is very very fast, start 2º gear 70/80km/h to 6ºgear +270km/h!!!

and now this Z06 570hps NO NITRO Smiley
