    A Wet Trackday at Oulton Park

     Bit slow in posting these pictures as the track day was Porsche Club UK @ Oulton Park in October 2010.

    This was the cars first track outting. I took thins very easy as the course was very wet.

    Oulton Park is a lovely circuit, probably in the top three tracks in England.

    Interestingly the car kicked out 104db at 3/4 revs during the noise test. The limit was 105db so just got in !!! GT cars are becoming a problem to get onto tracks in the UK these days.

    Great photos Chris - many thanks for posting..

    You must let me know next time you're in Cheshire as I live literally a stones-throw from Oulton Park.

    I've never taken any of my Porsche's onto the circuit however, but I have a Lotus, prepared by Spyder Engineering, which is used exclusively for tracking... I've also driven a Formula Ford at Oulton..

     Absolutely John, I will probably book another track day there later this year. The Porsche club have one there this November (But that might be a bit late in the season for the weather)

     

    I picked the Porsche Club Track day as the noise limit would be able to accommodate my car. Also the Club track days are well run and as most people have good cars, there was a lot of respect for other peoples property…

     

    I was looking at your new car thread last night and you mentioned driving the Evo Triangle. I have been thinking about doing this some time. So if you are ever up for a Hoon, then we can maybe arrange a meet.

    How do they do thew noise test ? Oulton park is a static test, several are drive by.

    That would be the only feedback i would give to Porsche. I think they should engineer a thrid setting on the exhaust sport switch, that can muffle the system ! I know of a few 997 GT3/RS owners that are hacked off as they have bought track cars they cannot get onto tracks.

    In France I have not seen the test being done. There is a big sign at the entrance , but after , I think, they only check if they can 'hear' you are too loud.

    At the Scuderia course at the N'Ring, last september and for the first time, the officials did drive by checks.  But all GT3 and Gt3 RS + scuderia passed the 'test' .

    I am surprised they check you at 2/3 rd of the throttle. Unually I thought it was more around 3 or 4'000 rpm ?

    Yourtrack day on the wet must of been  a very good learning experience .  BTW :  I love your car !

    Yep the two thirds throttle test, gets to me, as i do not like reving a car stationary to this level, especially when not warmed up.

    Goodwood is a classic example of a track in the UK which posses problems to get onto. I think the Porsche club have managed to secure one day this year at 105db limit.

    The wet track day was good at first for exploring the limits of grip at slower speeds, but some of the straights had a lot of surface water so with cup tyres it was quite challenging at times !!

    I am at Silverstone at the end of next month doing a two day Porsche Performance course, so hopefully i will get some spring sunshine.
