    RUF RT12 R - 730hp!!!

Porsche makes some amazingly capable and exciting machines. The German speedmeisters at Ruf are fans of those cars, but they like to take them, lock them in their insane asylum factory and release them back into the world as roadgoing rocketships. The company's latest creation, unveiled on the 2011 Geneva Motor Show floor, is the Ruf Rt 12 R.

Based on the (quite pedestrian by comparison) Porsche 911 Turbo, the Ruf Rt 12 R begins life with the stock 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine. That unit is good for 500 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque (516 lb-ft with the overboost function). After Ruf gets its mitts on the powerplant, output swells to 730 hp and 693 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to Porsche's six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel-drive system. And if you're a rich lunatic, you can opt for rear-wheel drive.

Ruf also works its magic on the body of the Rt 12 R. Carbon fiber is applied to the front fenders, hood, luggage cover, seats and is available optionally on the roof. The side and rear windows are plastic instead of glass to further aid in the quest for lightness. This weight reduction, along with the massive increase in power, has helped Ruf claim an impressive 230 mph top speed for the Rt 12 R.

RUF presents the new Rt 12 R

RUF proudly presents the all new Rt 12 R at the 2011 Geneva International Motorshow (3rd to 13th March). The 3.8 litre bi-turbo boxer engine delivers 537 kW (730 bhp) of power with a maximum torque figure of 940 Nm. A six speed gearbox deals with the power transmission and the 4WD system ensures optimal traction under all driving conditions. The lightweight R using design details originating from motor racing is an optimal choice of vehicle for the race track. The supension is also adjustable.

    Technical details:
    Coupé form
    Carbon-Fibre rear spoiler
Lightweight front with carbon fibre wings
    Carbon fibre front luggage cover
    Optional carbon roof
Aluminium doors with lightweight interior fittings
    Synthetic side and rear windows

Like the wheels, but the rest... yuk! Maybe in black and withouth the German flag  it will look better..

    Re: RUF RT12 R - 730hp!!!

Looks waaaay too bling IMvHO for an ultra high performance car - looks less for the track than it does for those who want to 'look' like they enjoy the track. I'm sure the performance will be biblically fast though.

C'mon, what works with the Italian flag, does work with the German flag as well. Smiley

    Re: RUF RT12 R - 730hp!!!

    Love it Smiley

But he is still using the 996tt motor, 9.4:1 CR with big turbos ?

The character and power delivery of the RT12 reflects this old tech I guess this will be even more of the same - which may be no bad thing Smiley

    Re: RUF RT12 R - 730hp!!!

RUF is one of the last remaining real craftsmen regarding Porsche tuning, this is something we really should admire. It is also interesting that while other put a lot of emphasis on body kits/looks, he puts more emphasis on brutal power and performance.

Oh, did you guys know that RUF also has the first (and only to my knowledge) official Porsche Service Point in Germany, fully approved and supported by Porsche?

This doesn't mean they support the tuning and mods but it is a first step to greater things.

Not sure if you have seen the pictures above ? He is certainly going all out in the body kit/looks department on this one, it has many differences from a stock 997 and has as many differences in body to say the Techart GT Street ?Smiley

Compare the technical part of a GT street with what's under the body of the rt12R.

Don't forget where the main markets are for these kind of cars...looks come first. Smiley

+1 I've always liked RUF and their approach to tuning porsches.

    Re: RUF RT12 R - 730hp!!!

Best thing about this beast is the engine, a standart 997 without any body mods and  730Hp heart would be a perfect Porsche Smiley.

    Re: RUF RT12 R - 730hp!!!

RUF is probably my favorite tuner. They really do nice work with Porsches and they make them evil...

This one looks really nice, not overdone at all, and that says something in todays crazy market.
If i see one more crazy SLS or SL in going to puke for real... they slaughter them.

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

RUF is now comfortable enough to also do a nice revolution with each new 911 available.

    That is really hot Smiley

I like the air intakes, Porsche should copy this on the 991 Turbo.
