LED backlights for 997 first generation

Just found those LEDs. For 500,- € incl. Tax it seems as a good deal to update the look of the first generation 997. For me, the new backlights are making a tremendous difference between 997.1 and 997.2.

    What do you think?

Fully agree and for EUR 500 worth a try, you can always go back to original and sell them on eBay.

Re: LED backlights for 997 first generation

I just ordered a pair. Problem - those parts are sold out across Europe. One dealer talked about more than 50 pre orders another about 30 pre-orders. My dealer said he expect delivery within 6 weeks.

    Keep you posted

Lars, those lights may look "good" Smiley but...I think it doesn´t fit your style Smiley

Re: LED backlights for 997 first generation

Personally, I think they look good - I remember how much effort atomic80 went to in order to replace the rear lights on his 997.1 TT with those from the 997.2 generation. This is obviously a much easier method at a reasonable price - no wonder the demand is so high

I like them, very good solution for the 997.1.

On the pictures, it looks like a christmas tree...
However, in real life they may look better. However, I always find it a bit tacky if I see a car with non-standard parts from a newer or more expensive model.

Are you sure they are street legal in Germany? I once saw similar lights from a german importer who got this stuff from China with false Euro approval stamps. Be careful.

Yep - heard about that, too. The neigbour Foum, there are plenty of guys which already put them on. They also have dozens of pictures and I have to say it looks great, the rear view is pretty close to the facelift after that and you have commit that those rear lights look 1 Million times better. I ordered it at dectane, a company specialized on this kind of stuff. So I guess it should be street legal.

I normally dont like this kind of upgrades of parts from newer or more expensive cars either. But to be honest, where is the pain - those lights they look so much better, why shouldnt I try them on? I for sure wouldnt go for a complete change of bumpers and so on.

Re: LED backlights for 997 first generation

If they are street legal, I would give them a shot. The 997.1 lights surely need some makeover.  Keep us updated.

I'm quite tempted to go for them too - I'll wait till Lars installs them (he can be the guinea-pig ) - it would be great to see some real-life photos (rather than the advertising photos)

Those look good, and a handy solution to freshen up the car.

Re: LED backlights for 997 first generation

To me personally it reminds me of people putting modern looking lights on old BMW's and Audi's, I don't like it at all... The OEM lights are classy and age well, I'd leave them.

Re: LED backlights for 997 first generation

Looks really good, yes i'd try it as well, it's a nice update.

Lars, these above ones look more professional than the ones you posted! Make sure you know EXACTLY which model you are getting before buying... With such products, there's cheap knockoffs, and pure garbage knockoffs off that. The above seem the most OEM and professional in design and layout, finish!!

I'd give those a try and of course you can just go back to the originals..

Re: LED backlights for 997 first generation

I have mixed feeling about them

When the lights are off the design looks better than the stock ones, definately more modern and refreshes the look of the rear, but when they leds are on they look much worse, the leds are too far apart from each other and to me it looks too much aftermarket and not the same quality look as manufaturer led lights, kind of like a xmass tree light cord.

You can see what I mean by comparing them with the MK-II OEM rear leds on the right:

Re: LED backlights for 997 first generation

Sorry, but too me it takes away the seriousness of the car. It becomes a cheap looking creature instead of a classy sportscar.

To me the first goodlooking retrofit in that segment is yet to come.

I saw last week an "upgraded" 996 to the 997 look. On picture it's still ok, but in the real it looks soooooo cheap.

Keep your hands of a good design...

And save the mobney for a bettet cause.

IMO originality in a car is very important, especially when the "upgrades" or rather the modifications, have no practical or performance advantages.

I agree with you reginos. But ever since the LED-style lights came up, the rear ligths of the 997.1 look a bit dated. So I could imagine swapping them against some LED-lights. But these have to be both, high quality and lookin good. So Lars, please bring on the pics. Smiley
