Re: Carrera GTS: Porsche 911 Now Even Sportier

Interesting review from Autocar as it finally tests the GTS on the (poor) UK roads and with -20mm Sport PASM. This ties in with the Carrera Classic reviews which seem to indicate that Sport PASM is reasonably compliant on the widebody cars (the C2S reviews I have read say its far too firm)

I have NEVER encountered a stock Porsche suspension, not even on the GT models, to be too firm. Maybe some car testers are too much used to their daily family drivers or they have skinny butts. *LOL*

I guess its subjective but I could not agree more with RC. Also, its the GTS version, it should ride sportier than standard in my opinion.

With today's chassis technology you can have both with the simple press of a button. Smiley

Not completely, there is still a difference between PASM and S-PASM, which is the case with the GTS.

Maybe in the 991 they will have both in one suspension with 3 settings, though I doubt it, because then they won't be able to charge extra for a sport suspension option Smiley

That is true for the 997 as you say Carlos, but other makers like Ferrari and I guess also McLaren, if you can trust the first reports about the 12C, already have it. Smiley

Re: Carrera GTS: Porsche 911 Now Even Sportier

Yes, if you can trust Chris Harris when he rages about the McLaren, he describes its three suspension setings to very very different from each other ranging from very compliant to very hard, so maybe in the 991 we may see something similar though I doubt suspensions ride will be exactly the same across 911 variants, Porsche has to differentiate their 911 models and McLaren only has one.

And the most important question is, do I really need a very comfortable suspension setting in a true sportscar at all? Smiley

Good question and I think you answer will not differ from mine

Re: Carrera GTS: Porsche 911 Now Even Sportier

Personally I'm glad I chose PASM over SPASM for my GTS.

It's a vast improvement on the 997.1 version in that sport setting is firm but not teeth chattering and normal setting is 'comfortable' but still very sporty.  I guess LSD and anti-roll also contribute to this assessment.

The normal setting is also much better suited to the condition of our road surfaces following the frost damage (pot-holes) which are widely evident in the UK.

I second your comments. The PASM on my friend's 997.1 that I'm familiar with, is not as well sorted as that on 997.2. I'm sure that the PASM system on 991 will be perfect.
