987.2 Boxster S PDK vs. 997.1 Carrera S Cabrio

Don't know if this was posted before, but anyway.

I was a bit surprised on the outcome, although not as surprised as the 911 driver who could not believe his eyes Smiley Beaten by a Boxster. Poor guy.

PDK is a huge advantage in the lower speed range below 160-200 kph.

Then, the 997 Mk I may have had Tiptronic and even if not, it had 355 horses only. Take the lower weight of the Boxster S and...well...no real surprise here. Smiley

It does not sound like Tiptronic, but I am not an expert on torque converting automatic transmissions. Tried to avoid them like the plague

Yes, looking at the weight versus power for both cars it comes out at 4.4 kg/hp for the 911 and 4.3 kg/hp for the Boxster (not taking into account any vehicle specific options). The Boxster does not carry a passenger and has PDK. So knowing all that, maybe no real surprise.

I am amazed at the difference in performance that the new DFI engine combined with PDK makes over and above our last much loved manual 3.4 Boxster S - much more than the on paper 25 bhp uplift would indicate!

We had a harder time measuring the fun factor...

Smiley Avoiding colors like Guards Red, Speed Yellow, Aqua Blue, Amethyst Metallic, Cream White and maybe Macademia Metallic is a good start. Unless of course you have breasts. Smiley

Aqua rocks! Us guys with cojones bigger than Charlie Sheen can order a Boxster or Cayman in any shade of blue!

Unfortunately, there is some girlie-perception in the States too. I took some heat for my 987S with several non-Porsche friends asking with a tone of total disbelief "why didn't you get a 911?" I tried to explain how it's lighter, better balanced, more agile, has 2 trunks instead of tough to use back seats and costs about the same for Porsche to build. They always thought I was lying about everything except the trunk.
