Hi guys, I'm new here, long time Porsche enthusiast. I absolutely cannot wait for the 991. I think Porsche is going to nail the design with this one. Lower, shorter, and wider; you can't go wrong. Here is a rendering of the front end based off a front end spyshot that I made for another forum recently.
I also played around and made a Mexico Blue GT3 version on the Nordschleife.
I want to do a rear rendering now. Lars, do you think you could provide us with an MS Paint sketch of the shape of the rear lights? Thanks in advanced if you can.
...all this talk of front headlights reminded me of those great renderings by Carrara!
mateoche:
i too hope that they are less round and have a more modern feel to them!
I would appreciate that too. The 991 has to differ from the 997 somewhere. IMO it makes no sense to present a totally new model that just looks like the phase-out-model. In fact it would be great to see something new, for both, current 997 and future 991 owners.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

Kreso, how about a detailed description of what you have seen?

Rear is almost like AB renderings. Front lights are not totally round and look almost mean. I am not impressed with new 20" wheels(one of the designs looks akward to me).

Guys, give Porsche a break, they have to mess up a few details so they have things that can be corrected in 3-4 years for the 991 facelift.
Intentional mess-up...Porsche invented this feature.

Well, let`s hope a good result
Kreso, what`s the problem with the new 20" wheels? Not sporty enough?

Today I had some talks with a "friend" and he mentioned that apparently the roundly shaped front light design isn't really...round. It seems that there has been a small change from the car I saw last year but he wouldn't go into details. The car from last year had front lights similar to the current 997, incl. the dynamic driving lights.
As soon as I get more details, I'll post them. Right now, I'm not sure if I should believe this "friend" or not but so far, everything he said was pretty accurate.
I always like the 996MkII headlight, kind of round with a twist; the 911 element is recognizable but with a modern design to it. I totally threw back to 993 of the 997 headlight was a bit of a disappointment to me personally. This can be interesting if Porsche get it right; or a disaster if not (996 MK1),

Ron , is it any better now ...
Nope but it looks interesting (you should also use a different "internal" design, the 991 gets Bi-Xenon and dynamic lights).

A few new pics from Porsche 991 testing in South Africa...
998 Test Cars in South Africa - pics and video (by calypso)
I got a call from a friend and manage to see some of the 998 test cars + two test Boxsters. The pics are very crappy, old Blackberry ftl, but I had a chance to look the the Carrera's for quite some time and tried to take in as much as I could.
All the cars have daytime running lights, they looks like a cold cathode tube under the LED indicators. Wipers are updated Bosch, windscreen cowl is quite different too. The engine cover looks like all the vanes can change angle, and underneath it is a large wing that retracts completely into the body.
Only 1 had carbon brakes, and those has a visible 997 part number, they rest looked like they were running standard 997 brakes. Also I tool a look underneath and counted 6 pipes in the manifold, so I dont think those flat 8 rumours are true.
Also strangely there was a 997 there disguised as a 993, not quite sure what the point of that was...

If it looks like this, at least one thing is for sure: no more "look it's a squashed beetle" jokes :P That said, they REALLY need to get rid of those bulbous frog-like headlights, they make the car look silly. And most of all, BORING

This looks exactly like the 997...
