    Re: Save Nurburgring

Thanks for the good wishes, Easy Smiley Can't wait for our next meeting in the Green Hell Smiley

I must be crazy - I had almost tears in my eyes when I drove the GT3 today after the long winter break.

I did the nearby Autobahn tunnel three times in a row and all the other motorists have been laughing and giving the thumbs up - Germany must be a good country after all Smiley

P-J, so you're going on Sunday huh? I guess the Nordschleife is your 'church visit'. And what a church it is! Confession, absolution, redemption all rolled into one 20km lap

I also can't wait to meet up with you at the Nordschleife again - trust me, this winter has been torture

Almost had tears in your eyes? You really love that car man ...

Don't forget to kiss the sacred asphalt for good luck in the season ahead

Haha that is great to hear Porsche-Jeck! Glad to hear you got to enjoy the GT3 again... winter must be painful for you guys.

    Re: Save Nurburgring

PJ, I am sitting at my desk and looking at the snowy  alps above Evian,  across lake Geneva.  It is still a winter feeling, even though temperatures for today are forecasted at 12 degrees.

Imagining that you are now on the N'Ring just gave me a slight hep and excitement that the end of winter is not too far...... You are very lucky to get to drive  Have fun !!!

It's just a petty that I am 6 ours away

Sounds like the perfect Nordschleife poetry, Easy Smiley

As for the tears: they grew bigger over the weekend as the battery died Smiley

Solution: T-car (aka 987 S) on winter tires Smiley Actually I enjoyed it a lot - the limit is so broad (good for re-calibrating your senses) and the rattle stones at Karussell felt smoother than ever Smiley And I smoked an Exige and an AUDI R 8 Smiley To give you an idea about the performance difference: in the Fuchsröhre in summertime with the GT3 on Semis 230 km/h is no problem - on Sunday with the Boxey on 18 inch winter rubber PSM kicked in at 180 km/h Smiley It was great to enjoy a pax lap in the 997.1 GT3 CS of a good friend afterwards. Tire pressure went up after just 1 lap (> 25 km including full GP circuit) by 0.6 bar, but tire temp felt luke warm still...

    Re: Save Nurburgring

I'm sorry to hear of the flat/dead battery P-J  I assume it's because the 997.1 GT3 was unused for some months during what has been an especially cold winter

At least the backup car did the business  You just needed a quick dose to keep you going till the season gets underway properly  I'm glad you had a great time

It's amazing - 230km/h vs 180 km/h in Fuchsrohre is a pretty big difference - it must have felt like a gentle cruise till the PSM kicked in.

    Re: Save Nurburgring

Forgot to mention, you're not the only one with a failed battery - others on Rennteam have been suffering the same problem - this winter was especially harsh in the UK as well.

My car's battery has been OK ... touch wood

    Re: Save Nurburgring

Seems that Scuderia-Hanseat is having troubles with the "new" management of the Ring too. Got a letter in the mail today from Scuderia which says that they are not sure yet if they can organize the event in Spring as the NRing GmbH is trying to force some unacceptable condition onto them (less driving hours but more money)...

It's a shame. I was so looking forward to finally put my new GT3 into action at the one and only right place.

    What a shame !!!!!!!!!!!

Join us in September, hopefully by then the problems will be solved. But the places will be hard to get ....

Otherwise why not try the spots auto course. I will probably do it too this year

Thanks for sharing this... I can't help but feel outraged when learning more about this disaster.

    Re: Save Nurburgring

Scuderia Hanseat is trying to put pressure on the management  ( petition , which I signed )

The new management is destroying everything. This course brought many new  people to the Ring.  Killing a 50 year old tradition is not going to make the situation better

    Re: Save Nurburgring

The Scuderia-Hanseat course in Spring May has been cancelled.

    Read the press communique http://www.scuderia-hanseat.de/en/press-release.html

    Re: Save Nurburgring

This is terrible. If the new owners wanted to increase the fees that they would charge to Scuderia Hanseat by 60%, you can bet that they will also want to raise the lap prices for normal visitors too.

    SH is going to court....
NBR management seems to run Amok: The Internationaler Fahrerlehrgang (similar to SH format) also is endangered due to crazy price policy....then I received an email from Sport Auto saying the dates for the Perfektionstraining are set, but they're still negotiating the price due to a "juicy increase". Talking about juicy price increases: NBR management tries to break up the Industry-Pool, asking for 10 mEUR instead 1 mEUR p.a. Smiley

@ Easy: prices for the Touristenfahrten are set - 24 EUR (single lap) vs. 22 EUR last year.

Unfortunately, the voices of driving enthusiasts who love the Ring do not seem to matter when there are huge debts involved.

It's all about the money ...

    here's the balance sheet from 2008 :

    http://ringumbau.de/misc/2010/Nuerburgring_GmbH_Bilanz_2008.pdf

Approximately only 15% of the revenue was coming from Touristenfahrten.

There is now a court order against 20832.com, a 10-year-old fan community forum. It is being sued for 40.000 € (can raise to 250.000 €) because of an article that had been posted on the forum 1,5 years ago.

Man this is a joke, a horrible joke. The sheer incompetence of these clowns is sad.

Take the local government with it's idiot muppets to the EU commission and sort this out top-down.

    Re: Save Nurburgring

    As someone said on Twitter;

One can share Frison's point of view or not, but having a court close down the forum is a declaration of war to all nring fans.

I agree. This is getting really silly. I know of other small businesses in the region that had to (hopefully temporarily) close their websites because they were using some Nordschleife-logo.

    Re: Save Nurburgring

Not that I think this will happen but I was so disappointed that I never got to fly on Concorde before it was put out of commission.  I can say however, that I am very pleased I have driven the NBR, if the worst should happen.  This is turning into a fiasco.

Someone will buy the ring.. Mercedes or BMW perhaps. Please take it out of government hands already...
