    Official Information Regarding New 911 (type 991) Introduction and More Thread Closed

    Yesterday, we got the confirmation: The new 911 (type 991) will be officially presented to the public in September 2011 at the IAA in Frankfurt.

    First cars will be available at dealers in December 2011, later than we expected.

    Only the 991 Coupe will be available, the Cabriolet is scheduled aprox. 6 months later.

    This information is valid for Germany only, many markets will get the 911(991) slightly later.

    Also in: The long rumored 997 GT3 RS special edition is coming, it is just a matter of time until the official announcement will go public.

    Christian, info as accurate as possible.

    First costumer 991 outside Germany will be in late January/early February 2012.

    Some 997 models will be produced along the 991 but I can't say if the 997.2 Cab is among them, sorry.

    What I heard though is, that the 997 GTS (Coupe and Cab) production may stop with the summer factory vacation. Many dealers don't get allocations anymore but some GTS are available at dealers for immediate delivery, at least over here in Germany.

    As far as I heard, the 991 Cab will start with the traditional soft top but apparently a folding hardtop is in development but I cannot say for what model (I don't know).

    Agreed.

    I decided to go for 991 Carrera S PDK. Just, car will be in my garage in one year time... 997.2 prices on second hand market will go down immediately after 991 pics enter the web in summer. Current extra edition from Porsche wont help either... BUT, 991 will be the best 911 so far and by for the best value in sportscar market.

    I'm not sure...I didn't pay attention when I got the information. Sorry.

    Only thing I know is that Porsche apparently liked the idea of the 997 GTS and may continue to carry over this model to the 991 too.

    My dealer told me a couple of weeks ago I would probably need to confirm the spec of my car in September and that it should arrive in January '12. I'd forgotten I'd put an order in 4 years ago now for this model, how time flies I'm due to get his 2nd customer car.

    Hmm, so you really think porsche is working on a competitor for the 458 Italia ? There were indeed some rumours that porsche would reveal a "spectacular concept" at detroit, but as it turned out, it was just a race version of the 918 spyder...so it appears that those rumours were just, ahem, rumours Smiley

    I feel kind of disappointed with the 458 which my own one is due on May. Maybe just gonna sell it if there is some money to gain. I couldn't believe that because Ferrari was my dream car right until I have driven one, the 355 F1, F360 F1, 599 and the 458.Smiley Do not worth it.Smiley

    F430? Never try one, so I don't know sorry. Just try one yourself, because that's your money.

    To me, I hate 911 when I was a child and really love Ferrari, but after testing both cars, Porsche wins, especailly the 911 GT3.Smiley

    The 458 competitor is not confirmed at this stage but is being referred to as the V8 GT. In this month's Car magazine Georg Kacher says new boss Matthias Muller is keen to use the new MSS architecture to create this model and the top variant would have 600bhp and 590lb ft of torque. If given the green light this project may take precidence over the limited volume 918 spyder as it is anticipated that the V8 GT could sell around 15,000 units over it's lifetime. As Porsche now have responsibility for developing the sports car platforms for the entire VW group it makes greater financial  sense for them now to take the opportunity to develop such a car to sit on shared underpinnings with the next Gallardo/R8 variants.

    As to the negative views on the 458 I simply can't understand this. It's an outstanding car IMHO.

     The rumoured 928-like V8 GT is not a competitor for the 458 Italia...more likely for mercedes SL/ jaguar XK/aston martin DB9 etc.

    Yes, there will be a dealer and a press event but I'm not sure when and where yet. 

    Should be in Europe but it isn't 100% sure yet.
