First reaction, what happened to Nissan's special press GT-R.
Second reaction, boy was the Porsche fast!
Third reaction, did that Lexus have the 'unintended acceleration' gas pedal and the 'unstoppable' brake pedal and killed the test driver.
Yep, the 997 Turbo S is amazingly fast from 0-100 kph and 0-200 kph.
I almost got tempted to get one but in the end, my brain (and my financial advisor) won.

I know how that continues, I got a crystal ball.
When you will get your brand new 991 Carrera, you will be glad that you made that decision because the new car will bring along so many new technical goodies and will be a marvellous sportscar - no doubt about it.
BUT...
... after a while you will desperately miss that extra Turbo-punch and we will see you rushing head over heels in direction 991 Turbo.

I think your prediction is spot-on Rossi - I expect RC will do the same as he did when the 997 was launched: 997.1 C2S then 997.1 TT

Though my wife has "only" a regular turbo, the occasions when I do drive it, I shake my head and ask "Who could ask for more?". The car is that good.
My only compliant is the muted exhaust. That may be related to my years driving a Ferrari but I do miss the aggressive exhaust. That said, I know my wife does not.

Nick, the regular 997.2 TT PDK is still one of the fastest road cars in the real world of driving with roads that may be wet or less than perfect in other ways etc ...

Nick, face it, truth is you are deaf from your countless Ferrari years.

John, he is and he did!!
BUT luckily he didn't have a financial adviser to dissuade him, as mentioned earlier. No offense intended RC. My beautiful wife's (Beth) last Porsche was a 944 turbo, dark blue. I don't seem to have a (scanned) pic so here's a pic of her red 944 before the blue turbo. I think she'd be pleased I also have a turbo now.

Easy, that is why I put quotation mark around 'only'.
Stefan, how would you describe your S exhaust?
BTW, for years I have felt Porsche evolution design was static and uninspiring. The mule shots of the 991 appear to show more of a sexy look and I find it refreshing and attractive. VW had stated they wanted to make changes to the 991 design after viewing the proposed finals of the 991. If their input has changed the look, I take my hat off to them.

Don, I just read your website and was deeply touched by "Beth's Page."
I very nearly lost my wife to cancer 5 years ago and can only imagine what you went through with your loss at such an early age. You have my utmost respect for the manner in which you are coping with life's ultimate set-back...

Thanks John. 2nd marriage for each of us so we were both wary but found the love of our lives. We "met" in a personals ad in MENSA magazine. Beth lived in NC and I in NY. We fell in love over the telephone (pre-dated the internet). We flew back & forth for a couple of years, together every other weekend if not more often. Took trips to Alaska, Bermuda, New Orleans, etc. Beth was lovely and very smart. I'm pretty smart but she had me beat! I left a good job and friends to be with this great woman. We were married in 1990 and she died from a "minor" heart attack in 1995 at the young age of 44! I was devastated but life goes on. I think one can be sad or grateful for what happens, I chose to be grateful for what I had while I had it. I don't date because once you've had a "Porsche", nothing is as exciting. I'll be fine as long as Woodford Reserve keeps making excellent bourbon. Just kidding. I'm very happy to hear your wife survived her battle! Men joke (me too) about their women, lovers, whatever, but the truth is, I now sleep with a cat!

- and btw we have 2 cats sleeping with us too and I would not want to miss that for the rest of my life ! My wife tells all our visitors being shocked that we let our cats sleep on the bed that "he" rather trade his wife than the cats - and I always nod to it - but as you said men joke a lot
nberry:
Stefan, how would you describe your S exhaust?
Very pleased with it Nick, honestly.
I don't know why exactly, but it seems I got a bit tired of the screaming Italian engines lately. For example the sound of the (terrific) 599 GTO gives me nothing, although everybody seems to like it. Regarding the exhaust note of the V8 models I absolutely loved the 355 in standard trim. Didn't like the 360, but the 430 was nice again, though not as nice as the 355. Now 458 is the first car, that can easily be driven quietly, if you want it. But then you have to choose a manettino setting you would never choose otherwise. In normal setting the 458 is really loud, sometimes just too much for my taste. As I said, my personal preference may have changed.
The Turbo S OTOH is just about right. Very pleasant most of the time and just about the right noise when in sports mode and pushed hard.

I actually planned a slightly different approach...surprise, surprise.

The other day I saw and heard a 458 and honestly felt the sound was intrusive...hey, look at me. You're right, we may be getting older and after years of exhaust bellowing we may have had our fill. Nevertheless, I would hope the 991 Turbo expresses itself more aggressively.

Thanks everyone. Hey, have you read the January issue of "Road and Track? They compare (sort of) the 2011 Porsche 911 turbo S, the 2011 Corvette Z06, the 2010 Audi R8, and the 2011 Aston Martin V12 Vantage. Here are the URLs to the article:
