Reading the Mayor's comments, they sound like the sort of things one says to get others to step up to the plate -- corporate sponsors or other sources. This is a huge global advertisement for Melbourne and Victoria and I'm sure they don't want to lose it. On the other hand, $70 MM shortfall has to get one's attention. I don't know if that's a huge number for the State coffers or not, in light of the benefits.

Hope it stays. Having lived there as a boy, it's one of my favorite races. Although, seeing F1 race the Bathurst would be pretty cool. Smiley

I never realised that black cars need less paint which gives them a performance advantage ...

But for (Group) Lotus Renault to think the old JPS colours won't be illegal under anti-tobacco advertising legislation is like putting your head in the sand.

Those colours aren't Lotus colours - they are the colours Lotus used for its tobacco sponsor. So for (Group) Lotus Renault to mimic those is not mimicking Lotus but instead mimicking the JPS colours. The reason IMO this hasn't caused a stir yet is that only those interested in F1 know about it really. The moment the anti-smoking lobby hears about this, they will have legal problems on their hands. Just wait till the car is shown on TV worldwide ...

I think what Pat Symonds says is very interesting. (Group) Lotus Renault has an enhanced CFD facility and a new wind tunnel whereas Mercedes is a smaller team than Brawn. He expects (Group) Lotus Renault to be ahead of Mercedes.

If Vettel finishes the 2011 Drivers' Championship in the top 3 and wins a certain number of races, then his contract binds him to stay at Red Bull for the 2012 season as well. So Red Bull will keep him if their car is good enough.
