This does not look good IMO.

The real issue here: Proportions. The front design works nicely...for the SL, which is much longer. For the shorter SLK, the front is just too massive. I understand that Mercedes Benz wants to keep a certain vintage (SLS, SL) design but this is just too much in my opinion.

I find the new MB front end design lacking in beauty and elegance. It's truck-ish and out of place for the position these cars (claim to) occupy.
This is the new vintage design strategy. It works pretty well on the SLS and somehow well on the SL but I doubt it works well on the SLK or the facelifted C-class.

Hmm at first i thought yes that does look too heavy and truck like in the front... But i reserve my opinion till i see it sitting in the showroom... These pics are most promising. I quite like it. It has grown up quite a bit which is nice and it's more serious and aggressive. Let's not forget the first gen SLK was just terrible... and then that F1 nose in generation two...
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

It looks like the blunt front end of every other new M-B, which I thought many on this board claimed was due to EU pedestrian safety regulations.... perhaps the implications of these regs. are uglier on smaller or sportier cars.
Re. Koko's comment on why they chose to replicate the super-car's looks - this is part of the payback from making supercars. The SLS et al add little to the bottom line profits, but if you can convince buyers of the more common M-Bs that they are getting some SLS cachet at far smaller price, that is effective marketing.

The SLK, even the Z4 and Boxster, will always look weird in a man's hands. Can't help it.
Same with the Audi TT Roadster, maybe not as bad.
I can see myself in a Cobra but not in a SLK. I could even imagine myself in a SL but never ever in a SLK.
