    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9349376.stm

8 drivers (Senna, Chandok, Klien, Yamamoto, Hulkenberg, Sutil, Liuzzi, di Resta) are all chasing the last 3 race seats (1 at HRT and 2 at Force India).

Of these 8 drivers, I think Sutil and di Resta will get the 2 seats at Force India but who will get the remaining seat at HRT is anybody's guess IMvHO ...

    http://www.planetf1.com/news/18227/6641202/Raikkonen-I-didn-t-miss-F1

Personally speaking, I didn't miss him either  We've just had one of the most thrilling seasons where 5 drivers were still in contention for the Drivers' Title in the penultimate race. Who needs Kimi for F1 to be exciting? What would he have added?

Very interesting analysis of how the moveable rear wing will feature in 2011

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9313790.stm

I think the rules regarding when the moveable rear wing can be used are, in some cases, sensible but, in other cases, risk reducing F1 overtaking to a video game (e.g. only when the driver is within 1 second of the car in front and only on a designated straight).

Plus we have the return of KERS - another push button boost

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/88857

Apparently, David Coulthard will replace him. I somehow don't see Coujthard as a race commentator. Instead, he is better as a pundit/analyst.

I just don't think they should tamper with the paddock team of Jake Humphrey, Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard. They had good chemistry.

Personally, I just wish they would bring back James Allen - he was great with Martin Brundle on ITV.

What a bizarre story ... What could those obligations be that they are worth suing Chandok over?  It must be financial in nature - did he promise to bring sponsorship as a precondition for his drive? He doesn't have much money of his own anyway so I don't see what the point is of suing him

Either appearance obligations but more likely than not, financial obligations. The smaller teams essentially "sell" their seat to the driver in exchange for the revenue they proportedly say they can bring to the team. At times this is corporate sponsors. At times this is private funding. I even remember hearing something about drivers being government subsidized - that is a national government kicks money over to the team.

I'm more shocked that they gave a seat to Narain

Hispania confirmed last week that Indian Narain Karthikeyan will take one of their seats next year, but they are yet to decide on their number two driver.

You've got to be kidding me? Has this guy ever NOT crashed into or out of an F! race? Watching him use the car as some sort of guided Scud missile became painful after awhile.

I'll say one thing, the politics of F1 gets a little tiresome. It's no wonder why so many great drivers leave the sport and don't look back on it with any level of regret.

    Re: 2011 F1 Pre-Season

BBC's Jake Humphrey's blog at the start of 2011 F1 season - a very interesting read IMHO - he's a nice guy whose career in TV has really soared over the past 2 years - he was the anchor for the BBC's Commonwealth Games coverage in Delhi and he was main presenter for the BBC's Sports Personality Of The Year Award. No mean feat given how recently he started ...

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2011/01/ringing_the_changes_for_2011.html

Eddie Jordan to provide analysis just before each race when David Coulthard heads for the commentary box

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9359509.stm

I'm so glad the BBC kept the trio of Humphrey, Couthard and Jordan for the pre-race and post-race analysis and chatter. They have great chemistry and make for great viewing. IMO the really great part is the F1 Forum on the red button after the race. It's friendly, informal and provides a great way to dissect what happened.

Those rejected F1 rule changes in full

Posted in News by Sniff on Monday, December 13th, 2010

    The FIA logo, yesterday

Last week the FIA announced Formula 1 rule changes for 2011 and beyond. However, not all of the proposed rules were passed by the sport’s governing body. Now Sniff Petrol can exclusively reveal the regulation changes that didn’t make it:

    • Ferrari to agree in advance which rules they’re going to ignore.
    • Michael Schumacher allowed to pretend he wasn’t in 2010 season.
    • All teams to use 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder engine from Fiesta RS Turbo.
    • Ferrari allowed to ignore agreement about which rules they’re ignoring.
    • Karun Chandhok to be re-classified as a ‘removable device’.
    • All teams allowed to buy sixth engine from scrapyard.
    • Stefano Domenicali limited to 50 appearances on BBC F1 coverage per season.
    • Nankang to become second tyre supplier from 2012.
    • All teams permitted to fit new air filter to Fiesta RS Turbo engine and then claim ‘XTRA 50BHP!!!!!!!!!’
    • Kamui Kobayashi limited to four ambitious overtaking moves per season.
    • Korean Grand Prix to become 35 percent less muddy by 2014.
    • Eddie Jordan limited to 900 tons of bullshit per season.
    • Bernd Maylander in a Mercedes SLS to be recognised as an official world championship entry.
    • A minimum of five teams called Lotus by 2013.

Alonso has started the mind-games again by singling out Schumi as a particular threat  Does Alonso know something about the 2011 Mercedes GP car and package that even Schumi doesn't know about yet?

Really, IMHO we have yet to see any persuasive evidence from the 2010 F1 season that Schumi still has what it takes to re-create the glory days of the past.

Forming views based on Schumi's historic achievements is more misleading than useful IMvHO.

    Re: 2011 F1 Pre-Season

This whole Lotus thing is really ugly. Group Lotus not only went to pay Renault to call it Lotus and paint it in Lotus colors, they changed the HQ and racing license from France to England as well. What is going on behind the scenes. I think someone will lose a lot of money in this battle... sponsors would not touch either with this thing continuing. And common i really don`t want to see 4 Lotus cars on the grid. This is getting stupid...
