Am I the only one who does not like the wider hips on the Carrera models ? Smiley

I am very happy now to have the  narrower  hips on my Carrera S ( compared to the hips of the carrier 4 ) , but on the 991 it seems it will be the S models that will get the wide hips.

I think it makes the car look too ' fat '  and there is no actual need for it. I like the Carerra to look slim and nimble .

The wide hips look great on the Turbo ( and needed ) and on the RS

I'm actually glad with the broader hips on S-models. I've always thought the narrowbody looks a bit too "soft" for a car of its caliber.

These last spypics start to look good, I hope the rideheight in those pics is close to production reality.

     Misha011, nice work!!!

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Fil de discussion fermé

i prefer the the narrow hips too ,

but ,aren't the wide hips needed to cover the tires ? or are they cosmetic ?

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Fil de discussion fermé

I too prefer the narrow look. Luckily, it seems like the flaring from the doors to the wider hips is more gradual, thanks to the extra length between the edge of the door and the rear axle.

I too like 911 in narrow body better; closer to the classic, nimble look of the original.  But I think the trend is the wider the better.  Smiley

I am surprised at how many actually like the narrow body .... but Porsche' s market research must of come out with another result......

Me too, but i never dared saying it because i thaught some people would think i was a bit preoccupated by owning a smallbody carrera S.

Imho the Carrera 4- body is a bit overdone.

The small body with 10mm spacers looked ideal to me.

This concerning the 997 range. The 996 needed the 4S or turbo widebody.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Fil de discussion fermé

I have to say that the widebody looks great but so too does the normal car - you only get to appreciate the difference when looking at pictures, when walking around the car or in the side mirrors when driving. Otherwise, when you're in the car, it makes no difference. I'm just glad we get a choice

Not much commentary about the 20" wheels for the C2S.  Can't say I'm a fan of ever increasing wheel diameter.  The aftermarket will probably be offering 22" wheels.

I think 20" wheels are starting to get a bit too big IMvHO - I suspect more and more that it's a cosmetic fashion trend with no performance benefits - indeed, there may well be performance and handling disadvantages ...

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Fil de discussion fermé

I too hope they have a performance reason for going with 20" wheels (that overweighs the performace drawbacks such as increased unsprug weight and unnecesary ride harshness) and its not just purely cosmetic. And even cosmetically, I'm sure I will get used to it but to me 20" look too much bling and aftermarket right now.

The Dealer has been showed  pictures of the 991 photographed from a distance (so that details are not very visible). According to him the rear is very 993-like and the front is an evolution of 997.2.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Fil de discussion fermé

If the car is what we've seen so far, designwise it is a small evolution of the 997 and not a significant jump like 993 -> 996. From the technology I'm convinced to see a huge improvement, but from design

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Fil de discussion fermé

Lars, I agree that the design is evolutionary.  But I have come to respect this Porsche process, and to gradually appreciate the differences.  Then somehow the differences become significant and very noticeable.  For example, I first did not see much difference between the 996 and 997, but after a short while I could instantly discern one model from the other on the road.

And on the 991, the new rear deck and bumper/spoiler treatment will make the car instantly recognizable.  And of course the new interior will a major shift.  I think this is going to be a huge step forward in 911 design and performance.

I adore 911 evolutionary path in design ...

    Well presented Misha, as always.

My first Porsche was a new 1966 Irish Green/tan 912.  I have owned some 16 other Porsches since then--wow what a progression in styling and performance over the years!

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Fil de discussion fermé

    RE: Mishas' excellent 911 montage

The distance from the top of the front fender to the top line of the windshield appears to have increased on the 991 compared to 997. The front fender top line looks lower in height on the 991.

Or is it just the cars color that makes those ratios look a odd

Overall it seems more cabin and trunk space is on the way besides all of the tech goodies and improved chassis.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Fil de discussion fermé

to me 911 shape is all about hips as well. the more the better.

I'm with you - the changes from the 996/997 are easy to see. But I still say this was more a face lift than a new model. From the 997 to 991 I expected somehow a bit more. But just compare the windows, they look exactly the same as before.

If you make a factory tour you will see how many parts have still the 996.xxx in the part number. Its amazing! Right now, I guess the 991 will still have a lot of similarity again. Thats what I dont understand.

If you compare other companies, i.e.take the old Mercedes S-Class and the new one or take the previous 7 BMW and the new one or even take a Ferrari F430 and compare it to the 458 - this cars really are new. Of couse, some parts will be the same but the major frame and technical parts will have been changed. Porsche did the same between the 993 and the 996, so I hoped for a change in this dimension.
