    it's a cool little city-car type of thing.

    bmw really is grabbing the market when people want subtle and performance.

    To be fair, this car will be double the price of a Golf R, or more in my country due to the "luxury car tax" for the more expensive vehicle. 
     

    I have gone for the RS3 over this as our city car as it is mainly my wife who drives it, and she can't drive manual.  But having seen that video and the full reveal of the car, I think I may explore how I could add yet another car and compound my issue of not having enough car parks!

     i love this car.

    the front bumper looks a bit too busy for my taste but i would love it as a city everyday car.

     

    but seems a bit late since the new 1-series is not far away.

    The problem with this new BMW is that because of the large size of its engine it will attract high taxes in many markets where there is a "luxury" tax.

    I would pay such tax (as I have already done) on a 911 or a large limousine (if I ever desire one) but not on a 1-series no matter how good it might be.

    Moreover, i wouldn't be surprised if a Golf R is as fast from A to B in a real world situation with its small 2liter engine, AWD and DSG gearbox whilst using less fuel.

    i guess from A to B it would not matter if you're sitting in a veyron or in a c-class diesel.

    both will get you to B in about the same time.

    it's the fun to be had between A and B

    Car is officially introduced. Price is more or less OK.

    BUT, no M-DKG is a major failure IMHO.

    That's a common problem today: you'll get the best versions at the very end of the life cycle only, just have a look at Porsche. Smiley

    I don't think the 1 M will be a car to be had purely for fun and be used infrequently like a sportscar. For most buyers it will be their everyday car in good weather, bad weather, traffic etc. In such a case I would get a Golf R, given the cost difference.

    Moreover, the manual-only option is a major drawback. Porsche manage to get away with it on their GT cars, I don't think for much longer.

    M1 will have very short life cycle. Thats reason why I think that Z4 M Coupe with this technique would be better choice than 1M now...

    I know how good this car is going to be.  Up until a couple of months ago, I had a 135i which puts out more power than this car, with bigger brakes and similar wide body, and it was huge fun!  This one is tuned by M out of the box, which interest me.  If I buy one, it will be in addition to the RS3.  I am 90% sure I am going to get the RS3 for my wife as her city car, but just not sure which car to get rid of.

    How can BMW promote this car as a successor to the original M3?

    The E30 M3 reached its legendary status due to its immaculate motorsport record. I doubt if there will be a race version of the 1M.

    Only 3 colours will be available: White, Black and Orange.

    For me classic Alpin Weiss is the colour of choice (no M-sport stripes of course).

    have you noticed the diameters of the breaks ...? OMG...360mm front and 350 mm rear... again, I am really looking forward to the track test on a track like Hockenheim with the Cayman S and the TT RS ... should be fun ... and tempting ? Well , this needs to be seen...at least for a P-track driver like me...

    A little side info: DKG will not be available for the 1M, the lifespan of this car is too short for that, the new 1 series is due next year.

    As to the Audi TT RS performance: With Steptronic, the TT RS does 0-100 kph in amazing 4.1 seconds and 0-200 kph in 16.3 seconds. I've even seen a review with 0-200 kph in 15.9 seconds. Very fast beast.

    Can't say much about TT RS vs. 1M track performance but I suppose there shouldn't be much difference.
