Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

Car & Driver did a comparison test of the Turbo S with some competitors.

    5th place: Aston V12 Vantage
    4th place: Mercedes SLS
    3rd place: Audi R8 V10 (manual gearbox)
    2nd place: Ferrari 458 Italia
    1st place: Porsche Turbo S

Amazing results for the Turbo S: 2.7 seconds to 60, to 100 moh in 6.4, through the quarter-mile in 10.8 at 129.

EDIT: Just noticed that is a repost, scan of the comparison chart in the thread of the sportscar board!

And if the Porsche seems a little cerebral in contrast to the passionate Ferrari, it’s hard to argue with its capabilities. Or what it delivers for the lowest price here.

    well sayed.

Love the roof which is refreshingly different to the black you see everyday ! Congrats again !

Can only repeat what I said on the other thread.....many congrats Don - puts the GTS in the shade.  I think if my dealer had the same alternative I may well have made the same decision..

    Congratulations....

I advice against that. no matter how good the 911 gets, the CGT is not just a good car its a porsche work of art and a great achievement beyond just its technical capabilities.

looks only????? what about and engine sound , I´m sure you forgot that one Smiley

But jezzzz, coming from a CGT owner it´s quite remarqueble complement for the TTS.

Can you give us some more feedback about your ownership experience with these two Porsche beasts please?

Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

    Here is a little comparo:

Carrera GT Pros: engine sound, looks, linear and impressive acceleration, permanent racing feel, best seats around, chicks and kids magnet, a legacy Porsche
Carrera GT Cons: freaky clutch, very low ground clearance, average breaking, need to know what you do the whole time, no luggage space, no electric roof, some people ask if it is a Boxster
Turbo S Pros: amazing acceleration, awesome breaking and handling, feels safe the whole time, Ferrari like paddle shifting, excellent daily driver, Bluetooth, GPS, iPod interface, touch screen, simply put: very user friendly
Turbo S Cons: disappointing engine sound (compared to the CGT), same looks over and over again, I can’t think of anything else
I’ve used my Turbos S almost every day since I got it at the end of June. Last time I drove the Carrera GT, I thought it was under powered and almost scary to drive.  I've had good times with this car, I would keep it but I have another 6 cars in the garage, need to let it go!

I imagine your reaction to this question is something like this:

    Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

May I ask what the other 6 cars are (just to put the CGT into perspective)? I think I couldn't let it go no matter what (and if were just for staring at it in the garage)

Great report, thanks for sharing. It´s great to hear first hand real world experience.

Keep the CGT, you´ll regret if you sell it, the TTS may be the best all around package out there, but you said it all, the CGT is legacy Porsche, it has a glamour that will last forever and ever as long as you , your children and the children of your children will leave.

Feeling scary driving the CGT after a drive on TTS is something I would never hoped to hear, but I believe this wildness to be part of unique ownership experience CGT provides.

Can you post some pics of your toys? Would love to see those two beasts next to each other Smiley

Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

If you are planning to replace the CGT with a 918 Spyder (and not keep hold of the CGT) then the issue becomes a matter of when to sell. If this is the case, it might be better to sell while the CGT still attracts good prices. There may also be some more CGTs for sale once current CGT owners start moving over to the 918 Spyder.

Having said that - I agree with most others here - if it's affordable, I would keep hold of the CGT even though the 918 Spyder will be added to your stable.

But reading your posts, it's clear that there are aspects of the CGT that concern you and driving the TTS every day has made you even more aware of the existence of these differences. Your heart knows the right answer. Ultimately, what's best for you may not make sense to others but what others might think is simply irrelevent.

Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

Silver, when all is said and done, the CGT is just a car. (What a car! But still...) If you're not feeling the love anymore move to something else that does it for you. Doesn't sound like you need to worry about missing the upside of the car as an investment and what's the point of having a collection of cars you don't love but feel you should hold on to anyway?

And, if 20 years from now, CGTs are worth millions, you'll have a great story to tell of how you sold yours when prices were down and, oy vey!, what would it be worth if I'd held on to it!

Welcome to RT, your car looks great and the scenery amazing. We have a house in Miami and we go every year to that beach Smiley. Hope you're enjoying many happy miles on your TurboS.

Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

    Thanks Emmanuel

The beach is real nice and large and white sand like fine flour

I also like Barefoot beach,a few miles south

My car is such a hoot to drive,it can make even a mere drive around the block exciting

Another pleasant and rare aspect about this car is that u can also drive real mellow

I just had a  passenger that hates going fast and only wanted a leisurely drive top down on a glorious 80F blue sky day...

I loved how it was easy and enjoyable to drive at  a slow pace as well
