Look at the 1998 993S vs the 1998 996 and see what the better investment was..

Very true. Newer does not always equal better (most severe example is probably 1973 vs. 1974 911).

I do have a rear wiper on my current Carrera S 997.1 and find it useful in some circumstances.

However, I've chosen not to include one on my new Carrera GTS. I feel that 'visual outweighs practical' on this car. My feelings would be the same with a 991.

I will have a rubber 'scraper' in the boot though..

Slightly off topic,but after reading about Lambo's new ISR gearbox(single clutch,double shifting rods),can't help but wonder if it would be ideal solution for 991GT3,mated to 4.0l Mezger...

You can see the longer wheelbase in this shot... does anyone know how they got the larger wheelbase? Is the car just longer by the extra wheelbase, or did they push the front wheels forward (assume not possible to push rear wheels rearward...). ?

"Automotive investment" has always seemed a contradiction in terms. If you own a car for 20 years and sell it for what you paid that's not a return on an investment, it's simply less of a loss. Who would be satisfied with a home or a stock portfolio that is valued for what it was purchased for 25 or 30 years later? If you buy an automobile for "investment purposes" and never drive it to preserve its value, the entire purpose of the car has been lost IMHO. Some of us eagerly await the 991 for its newness and all that implies, others prefer to enjoy the final refinements and values offered by the 997 in its twilight. There's no right or wrong. I never cared or the 996, but those who bought the car and enjoyed the ownership experience rightly couldn't give a fig about what I thought then or now!

Hmm... Back to original topic.

New wheelbase will be around 2450mm(or 100mm more then on 997 series) which will translate into lenght of around 4550mm(more or less). 991 will be around 1860mm wide and it will be as high as 997 models(at 1300mm).

That means that 991 will become bigger as we already saw from mule pics.

The 991 will benefit from a longer wheel base and larger interior, but will be barely noticeable. Also, IMHO, the interior of the Panamera and Cayenne is far superior to the current 997 interior, and will add elegance and refinement to the 991. Can't wait...

Kreso , this is my post (Apr.15.2009) and this method is pretty accurate and shows that WB is about 93 mm longer but overall length is appx. 115 mm shorter .
