Re: Easy Rider in Bruges & Knokke: my car's 4th birthday (*with photos*)

Renewed the Cobra PVTS subscription yesterday. It's unbelievable that I have a PVTS tracking device but there is a monopoly - only Cobra sells the subscription even though the actual tracking service is sub-contracted to a 3rd party company that provides tracking for multiple marques. They have us over a barrel ... inadequate competition IMO.

Sweet write-up Easy! Thanks for sharing.

Re: Easy Rider in Bruges & Knokke: my car's 4th birthday (*with photos*)

    @Enmanuel, @Atzporsche, @J.Seven, @Porker, @Spyderidol, @Gnil, @Pilot: thanks guys - I'm so glad you enjoyed the photos

@racerx: thanks  "Easy Living" :) I like that!  We don't keep all the boxes etc - that would be OTT even for me  So I take photos which can be kept much more easily  No plans to live in the suburbs. I did that while I was growing up in London. We prefer living in central London. It's more fun (and convenient)  There are a few photos from this trip that I am especially pleased with. However, I agree with you - the one you have selected is my favourite. It was a really beautiful, serene location and the setting sun made the lighting just magical. BTW we've been to Strasbourg before. It was the first stopover during our drive around Western Europe. Here are 2 photos from there:

    http://www.rennteam.com/forum/thread/381196/Re_Easy_Riders_Tour_of_Europe_NB_long/page1.html#p381196

@beltar: what a coincidence - being in each other's home towns on the same weekend  Yes, it would have been nice to meet - Hopefully, we can arrange something next time  We finished eating all the different types of chocolate we bought  Our order of preference (in descending order) was Pierre Marcolini, Leonidas, Godiva, Neuhaus, Dumon, Galler, Moeder Babelutte, Chocoholic  It was really great to try such a wide variety together - but I would only buy Pierre Marcolini, Leonidas and Godiva again

Re: Easy Rider in Bruges & Knokke: my car's 4th birthday (*with photos*)

Of the photos I took, the ones I liked the most were these 3 photos:

    2.jpg

    3.jpg

The above 2 photos are typical of the architecture in Bruges. I believe it is quite common in Flanders. After I returned, I compared these views with the photos I took of the canalside buildings in Amsterdam which also had ornamental gables. I must say that I preferred Bruges to Amsterdam in this particular respect.

However, I agree with racerx, this photo is my favourite. It is IMvHO one of the best photos I have taken.

...and just imagine...the last pic would be a long straight - the best place to gain speed and overtake the guy in front of you - but, beware of the dogleg curve following thereafter...  ...I guess, I am just a bit sleepy after lunch now...

Re: Easy Rider in Bruges & Knokke: my car's 4th birthday (*with photos*)

LOL - yeah, one can imagine the canal like a race track - maybe a bit hard to generate the same kind of speed though

Re: Easy Rider in Bruges & Knokke: my car's 4th birthday (*with photos*)

    Today is the day

10 November: it's been exactly 4 years since I collected my car from the factory in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart

My car is really dirty right now - so I guess I should find time to give it a really good clean - and then post a few photos of it

Sincere thanks to everyone here - I've learnt so much from you all which has really helped me enjoy, and take good care of, my car over the past 4 years

Thanks again guys for your kindness, friendship and for making a somewhat eccentric guy like me feel so welcome here

Looking forward to another year of driving fun and of spending time in your company on Rennteam

    Cheers,
    Easy

This evening I watched again on DVD one of my favourite movies, In Bruges (starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson & Ralph Fiennes).

It's just brilliant  Such a cool and clever film

Also, you see the most famous parts of Bruges in it too

    beltar:

Next time ask for the "rea"l" chocalate specialists in Brugge, marcolini is one of them, Godiva and neuhaus are more industrial.

I recently saw about a ton (literally) of packages of different Godiva chocolates piled high in a Florida department store (Dillards, IIRC), suggesting that they are indeed mass-produced.

Re: Easy Rider in Bruges & Knokke: my car's 4th birthday (*with photos*)

AFAIK, Godiva and Leonidas are made under local franchising agreements. I had a very informative chat with the lady at the Pierre Marcolini store in Knokke. She explained that, since some of the products they make are fresh (e.g. macarons, cream filled chocolates etc), those products don't travel well. As such, they currently manufacture their chocolates locally in Brussels (for the Belgian and UK markets) and locally in Tokyo (for the Japanese market). And that has been the main reason why Pierre Marcolini has not expanded more overseas. She said that he is not eager to disclose his recipes and techniques to local franchisees. She added that he also thinks that expanding globally would change the nature of his artisanal business. She explained this by comparing it to Godiva and Leonidas which are truly global now.

Personally, the global expansion of Leonidas and Godiva has not affected their quality one bit. They are still superb IMO.

Re: Easy Rider in Bruges & Knokke: my car's 4th birthday (*with photos*)

After 4 years of owning my 911 and over 6 years of membership of Rennteam, it suddenly occurred to me - I haven't changed my Rennteam avatar in over 4 years

Time for a refresh Smiley It's a photo taken when I took delivery of my car in the New Car Collection Hall at the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart

Plus, I've added some photos to my signature to commemorate my track driving training at Porsche Sport Driving School Nevers Magny-Cours in France, the Porsche Sport Driving School Track Day in which I particpated at Hockenheim and also my trips to the Nürburgring Nordschleife Smiley
