Re 959: I think that is partially due to the wide hips in combination with the door-mounted mirrors.
Re rear shape: It reminds me of the shape of the audi tt rear wing... hoping that that silly "overhang" will go away...
As Carlos says the car looks less and less 911. The front bulged bonnet (Beetle-like) is a caricature of the original design. The longer wheelbase, beyond the dynamic damage it brings, gives it a stretched look that reminds of a Jag XK.
Let's not forget the added complexity - auto stop/start and electrically controlled handbrake.

The "improvement" that gives me most concern is the electric power steering - sure hope this isn't a further numbing device...

i have to admit, i'm not sure i love it. i think it looks best from the side but the rear circular lights (that appear lightly covered look cheap and off a japanese car to me) and the back and the cuts out look to pronounced...
at this point, i think i (much) prefer Larson's renderings...

(i certainly hope not! i prefer a minimal design)

My guess is that they're using the current Turbo front spoiler because of its width (the new car is wider than the old one). I don't think we have seen the final front spoiler yet.

We recently spied two next-generation Porsche 911 prototypes out testing, showing off its slightly revised shape and new exterior features. We can only imagine what sort of rigorous testing procedures are involved with creating a new 911, so it doesn't surprise us to see the the almost-naked Porsche back out on the road again.
Mum's the word on exactly what lies underneath the 911's new skin, though earlier reports have stated that the 3.6- and 3.8-liter flat-sixes will carry over unchanged, though a new electro-hydraulic steering could be on hand in an effort to improve overall efficiency. We've heard rumblings about more spacious rear seats and an electronic parking brake being fitted to the new 911, as well.
We expect Porsche to take the wraps off of the new 911 sometime early next year, possibly at March'sGeneva Motor Show. Until then, get another glimpse at Porsche's pride and joy in our gallery of spy snaps below.

The cab looks definetely a hardtop covered with canvas. When looking closely to the above pics, it even seems to me there are only to pieces of roof that fold over eachother.

if that sunroof will be an option on the carrera models maybe the 997.2 Targa was the last generation targas we will see.
looks very promising the whole concept. newer is always better and we'll get used to the design independent of what the final product will look like.

Maybe that new sunroof design won't compromise headroom like the current one. I had a couple 944 Turbo S's and those had a tilting/removable sunroof that didn't affect headroom - pretty nice. However, I had an accident with one of those cars and the sunroof flew off and traveled an entire city block at high speed (like something out of James Bond Goldfinger). Not very safe...

Newer is not always better. And at this price, and such an emotional product, I don't want a design I will get used to. I want something that will make me lust / drool after it. The 993 was such a design. The 964 was not, nor the 996. They were nice enough, but not interesting enough. The 997 is almost there, but not quite: a bit too "correct", nothing unexpected.

wow wow... seems my guess on the panoramic roof was right.
I hope the rear lights are not that big and blocky... prefer Larson's one. I hope they sticker the real rear lights so at least I can still hope for a better looking rear lights when the final model is launched. Overall, I like the shape and the new rear wing design. seems at this point Geneva launch maybe in order.... I feel Porsche desperately needs to launch this car asap as many people are slowly parting money to the likes of the MP4-12C.
still beats me why they bother to retain that turbo air intake sticker...
