It will be nice, who cares if it's soft or hard top, a cabrio is already a weird breed of 911. I think a hardtop will boost sales making the coupe rarer

Guys, not to be an ass or anything, but was it REALLY necessary to post here those horrible cars ? Smiley  I don't know, maybe it's just me but I don't want to see that kind of cars on a porsche dedicated forum (no matter what tiny connection there is with the porker; in this case, that they also had a fabric covered metal roof). Simply put, they make me PUKE, and therefore very reluctant in checking this page again Smiley

Sorry about the post. These are nasty indeed. My apologies for any discomfort these may have caused you.

A regular folding hardtop has 2 hard layers, the interior hard panels and the exterior metal panels, maybe Porsche will work out a sort of hybrid where the interior panels are more rigid than on regular soft tops but the exterior is still covered in fabric. That could save the weight of the metal panels but still have the rigidity of a hardtop (and the good looks of the soft top). Well thats my theory.

    That would be smart Smiley

The rear headlights still have camo on its perimeter, but does that rear looks like it has now a wide narrow retractable rear wing independant than the rear grill?

Isn´t the photo from the rear photoshoped Smiley

Probably the result of a combination of the car being under acceleration and body-roll right at that instant. If you look at the cab in the 3rd pic, its under the opposite effect.

Porsche 911 shows off its new lines...

Perhaps one of the most iconic automotive shapes of all time is that of the Porsche 911. Its signature lines are only mildly tweaked with each new generation, creating an evolutionary design that has only occasionally had some questionable fittings (we're looking at you, 996 fried egg headlamps).

Our trusty spy photographers just sent along these shots of the next 911 coupe and cabriolet out testing in Europe. In previous spy sets, a heavy plastic shell covered most of the 911's exterior, but now the prototypes are nearly naked, showing off the more chiseled lines of the iconic Porsche.

LED turn indicators are found up front and more pronounced air vents flank the sides, but what we find most interesting is the more sculpted rear deck with its retractable spoiler. From some angles, we'd even say that the 911's rump is reminiscent of current Aston Martin designs.

Expect to see the new 911 debut sometime during the 2011 auto show circuit -- we're thinking Geneva...

    2012 Porsche 911 spy shots...

Porsche is soon to launch its next-generation 911 and as can be seen by these latest spy shots, prototypes for the car appear to be almost complete. Shown in the least camouflage yet, the new 911 looks to be just as its predecessors have been: a variation on the classic theme, with some modern tweaks. But just as the continuity of looks in previous cars have masked major mechanical changes, so to will the next-gen 911.

We first started seeing test-mules for the 2012 Porsche 911 back in 2008 and soon after that Porsche's chief of research and development, Wolfgang Dürheimer, revealed some details of what to expect for the new car.

Speaking of the new car, Dürheimer said, "'it will be even more competent, even sexier, even more unique. The design can of course only be evolutionary, but beneath the skin, almost anything is possible". The 2012 Porsche 911, known internally as 'project 991', will feature a few radical departures from the 911's long-running classical styling.

The changes are out of necessity more than anything, but they will be noticeable. First, pedestrian protection rules in Europe will require a change to the nose section of the car, likely meaning a larger and more collapsible bumper section. The rear of the car will also be changed, but for aerodynamic improvement.

Clear differences between the new model and the current 997 are the more upright headlights, a slightly longer body, and the side mirrors are now positioned at the side of the doors and not at the window.

Other new features for the car will include extensive use of lightweight carbon-fiber materials and active aerodynamics--surfaces that react to what the car is doing, and how fast it's doing it. Expect adjustable front and rear spoilers plus dynamically opening and closing air intakes.

It’s still too early to determine what changes Porsche has in store for the engine lineup, but expect to see the familiar flat-six engine range carry over with only minimal updates--possibly for emissions and economy standards. The new PDK dual-clutch gearbox will also carry over as will a standard 6-speed manual. Rumors of a possible four-cylinder addition to the 911 lineup, effectively bringing back the 912, and the revival of the 914 are shaking things up. However, at this point nearly anything seems possible.

    Boxster Coupe GTS:

The car features a very different rear end than the current model. Look at the panel gaps between rear fender, engine cover and rear wing. Very interesting.

I wouldn't if I were you. First of all, I'm not so sure that what you see in these spyshots is indeed a folding roof ! It doesn't seem to "fold" in any way. There are precisely NO folding marks (i.e "creases" in the fabric, or panel gaps where the metal roof sections join, which should be seen underneath the fabric camo), just a smooth surface which to me indicates it is a removable hardtop, just like the ones porsche already uses for the 997 cabrio:

We could just be seeing a cloth covered removable hardtop. I am not too concerned over the cab top construction. Plus I am sure we will see some spy shot wtih more details on the cab top.

After the panamera "cocoon" fiasco I don't believe anything is covering up anything significant anymore. Other than the obvious camo, what you see is what you get.
