I just use "sport" leather gloves from Emporio Armani, no dedicated driving gloves. On the weekends however, I do have dedicated driving shoes...black leather ones by Piloti.

Thanks, not a big fan of gloves, but when you are driving with the top down in the sun, they are a must!

Well, there are driving gloves, and there are driving gloves. I'm off to Porsche's Driver's ED...and am going to pick up a pair of these:
Might be a little over the top for daily driving, but to be honest, you don't really need driving gloves for everyday twists and turns. They're generally a bit pretentious.

Am I the ONLY person on here who thinks driving with gloves (except in DEEP winter) is a bit, well, naff?
Seriously guys, none of us are Schumacher. Do they REALLY make you go faster?
When I sold Porsches, you used to see the (least talented) middle age men turning up for the customer track day wearing driving shoes and gloves and 'Porsche Cup' nomex suits...... a bit over the top really. If only they could drive half as well as they dressed.
Skin on leather is best for these sorts of cars. You lose feel with even the lightest leather gloves.
And I definitely think people would laugh at you driving with gloves and the roof down in the middle of summer!!

JZ - I agree!!! But when I seen a pair of the Dunhill gloves I couldn't resist. I hardly ever wear them (complete waste of money) for the reasons you state but it's the whole tradition thing with them. They do come in useful when it's freezing cold in Scotland though! Never would wear them in summer or non-baltic days!

See, I agree mostly to that statement, with one consideration...on the track..you sweat, your palms get moist and that can translate to a loss of grip during an emergency situation. The gloves protect you and are confidence building. During normal driving...gloves are pretty much for the "light-in-the-loafer" crowd.

I have a 330i w/ perf pkg and it came with an Alcantara wheel (faux suade) to match the rest of the interior. After 30K miles it was a mess (worn, etc). I asked them to replace it with a regular leather M3 wheel, but they wouldn't do it. I go ta new Alcantara wheel.
My solution: Very nice and classy BMW leather driving gloves (Under $40). After 10K miles, my steering wheel looks brand new. I think leather on leather offers MUCH more grip than skin on leather. Still, I keep them on that car, and take them off before I get out of the car. I don't want to seem like a show-off or a wannabe.

I think the vintage roadster makes you look like more of a poofter along with the leather goggles, tamoshanter, and gloves...
