A few progress pic's. The suspension has been stripped down and anew bushes are being fitted front and rear. The shock absorbers and springs are all fine so require no work. The wishbones looked untidy so they've been shotblasted and powder coated and now look virtually brand new.
The cam covers came off to investigate the weaping oil. As expected it was simply the gaskets which had become saturated and started to break up so a new set are being fitted. The valve clearances have all been checked and amazingly only one was out of tolerance and I've ordered new shims so it can be correctly adjusted. The carb's are being cleaned and set up by an "old school" specialist. The cams themselves and timing chain are all in great shape and the engine is pretty clean as you can see. It will receive a routine service (plugs, oil and filter change etc).
The dash has been removed for retrimming and the front screen taken out in readiness for when the car goes to the paint shop.
There are a few things I'm doing for a belt and braces approach whilst the car is in this state of disassembly and things are easier to access. Because I've had the radiator recored and refurb'ed I've decided to fit a new set of water hoses. I've also decided to fit an upgraded alternator as the original didn't have a built in regulator. Magnetti Marelli now offer a replacement that does have a regulator and is more dependable.
There is localised surfacecorrossion on areas of the chassis frame that will be cleaned and repainted with a rust inhibitor like Dinitrol.
Overall things are going well with no nasty surprises and the car is generally in excellent shape I'm pleased to say.
