That is certainly a bigger difference than I expected, its on a different league altogether, what a beast... twitch.gif

Well, you know what I think about factory claims, including Porsche's ... +

    Smiley

Thats why I din't expect such a fast time from HvS inspite of Porsche's factory claim, but 7:24 is amazing, I would have guess very low 7:30's at most Smiley

    Very strong the RS!

What difference in times, do you think a DCT would make?

    Re: 997 GT2 RS Supertest

DCT is not the key for excellent Ring time here. Key is suspension tuned almost only for the Ring-this is the GT2 RS secret. Its suspension and aerodynamics are tuned for fastest possible Ring time(for street sportscar). Tires also are developed with Ring drive as priority.

You can not compare sportscar equiped with street tires(458 and SLS AMG) with cars equiped with R compound sport tires a la GT2 RS or R8 GT.

To extract most of GT2 RS capabilities you need to be "Kenner"(a German word-could be translated to English as "Experienced and full of knowledge sportscar driver").  You really need to know how to drive it fast and respect it highly at the same time.

To drive fast SLS AMG you need to be just above average driver who knows how to drive RWD sportscar. Almost the same verdict for 458(which IMHO required little bit longer accomodation period then SLS AMG). 997.2 Turbo PDK is somehow different animal. Until 8/10 almost all drivers could drive it fast. BUT, above that level its sometimes strange behaviour can be tricky if you do not have enough experience behinde its steering wheel.

    Re: 997 GT2 RS Supertest

Its Hockenheim time is also impresive though.

     Hi Kreso,

I think that DCT will bring approx. 2s on the NBR - many shifts at high speeds will benefit DCT.

Regarding tires: the Cup+ are not faster than Corsa, based on my impressions to date. I expected otherwise but was disappointed. Maybe the effect of the reduced acquplaning of the Cup+ version compared to the previous Cup version. I am also not sure whether the 458 has any disadvantage in terms of tires. I would rather not think so. Same with SLS - the SLS has tires specifically developed for this car...

You point on driveability is correct - most drivers might be faster in a turbo Smiley Only if you really enjoy this ultimate precision cars like GT3/GT3RS or GT2/GT2RS offer you will fall for this kind of car SmileySmiley

    Markus,

You are probably right regarding tires for SLS or 458. Just, 458 is available with P Zero also lately and they could be even faster then Michelins. Same P Zeros will be soon available for SLS as well in M0 specs.

GT2 RS is awsome car-BUT, is it that much better then yours GT2?? Could you(or any 997 GT2 owner) justify additonal price for GT2 RS? And I fully agree with you about strange Porsche sales politics for GT2 RS-almost 80% of cars ended in speculators hands AFAIK... What a shame...Smiley

    Re: 997 GT2 RS Supertest

The strange thing here is that HvS drove the 997 GT2 faster in a lot of the curves..

But the ended in speculators hands probably because existing GT2 owners (who mostly represent the Porsche hardcore drivers) could not justify the additional cost, like you suggest above.

In my case the primary reason is that I will have done about 90.000 km in my GT2 next spring - in 28 months. Thus, I need a new car... Who knows when the 991 GT2 will finally be available Smiley

You are a real hero my friend and an example for many expensive car owners

You use your supercar for your transport and pleasure without the complexes for depreciation, maintenance costs  etc that most owners have. My compliments!

    Re: 997 GT2 RS Supertest

I agree fully. Markus, Stefan(Rossi), RC and other here really drive that cars. That is the point IMHO.

For example I did only 31000km with R8 V8 before selling it. In 20 months. If you do not drive at least 10000km/year with your sportscar do not buy it. That is my opinion. Of course, second car as daily, all weather driver is a must(at least for me).

    Very impressive. Smiley

The 7:18 claim is true though...achieved by a Porsche test driver (not sure it was Walter Röhrl) on a pre-production car. Which of course wasn't stock but thats a different story. Smiley

7:24 is definitely a different league, no doubt about it.

     Downforce front axle: 14kg

    Downforce rear axle: 35kg

    Max g-force: 1.5g

    Wet handling: 1.38,7

Top speed at Döttinger Höhe: 300kph

    0-100: 3.5s

    0-200: 9.8s

    200-0: 126.6m (12.2 m/ss)

    Re: 997 GT2 RS Supertest

Wet handling time is for sure telling us something about tires...

    Re: 997 GT2 RS Supertest

Weight is lighter than I expected, can you say what options it had ? was it 90l tank ?

Downforce numbers are  better than stock GT2's front axle 9kg and rear 29kg, the RS has a 5% greater front end bias...

What was the measured Cd/CdA numbers ?

    TIA

    Re: 997 GT2 RS Supertest

GT2RS measured downforce at 200kph equates to:

    at 300kph:

    Front: 31kg

    Rear: 78.5kg

    Total 109kg......

Good but not the 160kg Preuninger was alluding to

I remember when the Viper ACR came out it had some crazy high downforce number, but I don't remember it being in kg or lbs. How do these GT2RS numbers compare?
