    beautiful "ground up" restored 1966 911: worth €59k?

     I recently came across this ad and instantly fell in love with the car:

    It's a complete "ground up" restoration and looks amazing. However, I have no real experience with this old classics and would be grateful if the enthusiasts on this board could provide some advice on the following:

    - is €59,000 a fair price to pay for a non "S" SWB in mint condition?

    - if I decide to go and view the car, what things should I check for?

    - how are these cars to live with? It will be my second car and only used during dry weather (hopefully traversing the Alps).

    Hi moose, I'm not an expert but I never saw a SWB in good condition offered for less than 50,000, the (claimed) mint condition cars are offered exactly at the pricepoint shown in the linked ad. The SWBs are very sought after collectors' cars.

    call the guys from http://www.lutziger-classiccars.ch/

    They have these kind of cars in top conditions here in CH and will give you their expertise.

    In any case if you're seriously interested I would get the car inspected by a independent "opinion" before you sign which might cost a few bucks and every serious seller would have no problem with it.

    I hope to contact the seller over the weekend with a view to visiting after I'm back from my next business trip. If I'm fortunate enough to buy it, I'll be sure to post pics here.

    The vendor apparently suggests that this car has been restored to it's original state by Porsche. Since the classic restoration takes place in Zuffenhausen, please contact Porsche.

    The car appears to be in amazing shape, but a lot of corners can be cut in a full-restoration. I would A?) Contact Porsche if they actually did the job it will show. B) Have it fully checked by a porsche specialist if not to make sure the ground-up job was done 100%

    If that checks out, this car, in this condition, a pretty good deal for the money! You should be able to run it problem free just like they did in the 60s. Keep up with all the maintenance and you have yourself a beautiful machine.

    I say Go for it, it's THE best car you can buy

    Hi,

    8 years ago, I had also a 1966 911 in white with 130 PS in my stable. These cars are very nice and give you fun, when you treat them as an oldtimer.

    If you are driving them often hard on your alpine passes, your bills will be very high. If you prefer to drive your classic fast, go for a 1989 Carrera with 231PS - Classic shape but more fun on the road.

    I don´t think, that the restauration job on the green 911 was done by Porsche in Zuffenhausen - in my point of view the seller has just a "certificate of origin" - you can order this from porsche for ca. 150 EUR with your VIN and a picture of the car.

    For ca. 200 EUR you could order an inspection by a classic-data-specialist to be sure about the condition of the car.

     Firstly thank you to everyone for providing their invaluable feedback.

    I did finally contact the seller on my return from a recent trip only to find out he's increased the price outside of my limit.

    I'm sure he'll sell it but unfortunately I'm not interested at the current price. However, if it's not sold in a couple of months, I might approach him and make an offer.
