In motorsport, not everyone can win. With the new Carrera S Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, not everyone can have one. Because there are only 30 – so it's reserved for drivers with a winning mentality.
...or drivers with a big pocket and no car knowledge whatsoever.

I suspect that Asian customers have a different mentality, in looking for an individualized version no matter of the meaning. Afterall, quite a few emerging markets do not have any long-time affiliation with Porsche or other sportscar brands.
Could anyone of our Asian members elaborate on that?

IMO buying luxury sports cars in these parts of the world is just like getting the 'right' luxury label in other kinds of shopping be it Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Valentino etc In a highly developed, very branded label-conscious shopping culture which many major cities in the Far East have, this is key. So Porsche can easily milk the end of 997 lifecycle in this way.

I understand the niche Porsche is targeting - the rich who wants exclusivity. I mean really, are we in the western world much different? Look at the sold out Sport Classic and Speedster. Sure, you can argue all you want about the historical significance of both vehicles, but really, both are GTS in different clothing. Much like the Carrera S Carrrea Cup Asia then.
Btw, I grew up in Malaysia until I was 13 and have an Asian background, so I do understand what the Chinese is like!

I don't think a limited offering of 30 pieces of anything is significant enough to impact unfavourably on any brand...
I'd say clever marketing if such a token gesture opens up a new field of opportunity...
