Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

I am writing the following half laughing and more than slightly amused, with NO intention whatsoever to start a fight/rant etc: REAL... ZEUS.... Got it Ferdie? Got it Rossi? Come on! Zeus is taking over Nick's old job Smiley FERRARI RULZ! Got it guys? Smiley

My comment doesn't matter.... Because real life experience doesn't matter. Only specs. And numbers. And bullets Smiley

BTW, regarding Nardo 2010 AMS test... GT2 RS was without Navi, AC and with older smaller exterior mirrors...

Kreso, all GT2RS come with these mirrors. They can still use them as all cars will be registered prior to year end Smiley

I may be a big fan of the F40 which I consider the best Ferrari ever made, but a 458 isn't a 9sec car in the 0 - 200kph test, sorry dude, but it won't happen in anyones prodcution car nor you can find another test, good luck getting over this fact Smiley

I just provided 2 tests, where the 0-200 km/h performance is below the 10 s mark (on the Evo test, deductively so). Hence, your arbitrary assumption has been emphatically disproven.

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

In AutoBild Sportscars' new supercomparison the Turbo S was faster on the straightline than the 458 Italia.

    0-100 km/h in 3,3 s (458) and 3,1 s (Turbo S)

    0-160 km/h in 6,9 s (458) and 6,5 s (Turbo S)

    0-200 km/h in 10,4 s (458) and 10,0 s (Turbo S)

    400 m: 11,2 s (458) and 10,9 s (Turbo S)

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

I love these pissing contests. When the 458 just came out and we got to see the videos with the crazy high-tech electronics I was like omg this car is sick fast. Now these tests, well the Turbo S is very close if not better so take it for what it is. Let's not start another pissing contest boys. (Porsche wins those 90% of the time)

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

So, basically the german magazines put the Turbo S on top, whereas the italian and the british magazines, the 458. I 'll leave that to each individual's judgement.

    FERRARI RULES!!!

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

458 is faster car then 997.2 Turbo S on the track. In fact on every track. BUT, 458 is on the other hand only marginally faster then SLS AMG(which is also on most tracks faster then 997.2 Turbo S).

In straight line story is little bit different... IMHO 458 is in 0-300km/h faster then 997.2 Turbo S.

BUT... In real life situation like for example 120km/h to 220km/h on autobahn in Germany.... Imagine three cars-458, SLS AMG and 997.2 Turbo S. Naturally, SLS AMG and 997.2 Turbo S drivers will use fastest automatic programm(on their DCT and PDK gearboxes). On the other hand 458 driver will most likely use manual CST off programm(if he is skilled or brave enough). When all three floored it which one will get fastest till 220km/h(from 120km/h). I already know the outcome... 458 is not the fastest.

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

Kreso, you are on to something there mate. I don't think there is a doubt that from a standstill and up to 60 mph the Porsche is quicker. Then the Ferrari equals that by the 100 mph mark and is clearly faster after that. The nearly 2 s difference in favour of the 458 in the 0-160 mph dash leaves no question whatsoever about which is the quicker car at higher speeds.

To my understanding 0-160 mph (i.e. 0-256 km/h) is greater than 0-200 km/h. The 458 is nearly 2 seconds quicker from a standstill to 160 mph, according to Evo Magazine of the UK. Smiley

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

    Back to the nardo test.

very hot temperature would explain the slower acceleration of the turbo powered engines like gt2 rs,

But in the otherhand it cant explaine that the same sls car dit it in 35 secs where in Sa test 0-300-0 he did it in 41 secs.....

6 secs different up to 300 kmh, cant just be explained by more power.

The sls smokes almost the 458 in this test specially 200-300 kmh time are equal.

So sls either must have more power or  there was a writting error.

458 indeed dindt look that good. oh okay it was a germand mag test i forgot it...

     Why not Smiley

P.S.: Sorry, I only read later that you would also consider a typing error. Would not be the first time AMS did a typing error in the Nardo test Smiley

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

Regarding SLS... Example tested by SA was slow. There wasnt a typo error. A friend of mine tested his SLS on the autobahn. 160km/h-300km/h time was excellent. According to his calculation his example of SLS(with normal seats and brakes) 0-300km/h is around 35.8s-36.0s so.... BTW, all SLS engines produce at least 571ps...

Kreso, I think it is VERY strange that the SLS is now 7s faster than in the SA test... This is way too much (given that the other cars tend to be a bit slower due to the hot climate in Nardo, GT2RS, for example, is 2s slower than SA). Mercedes has a "track record" of sending special cars to AMS high speed tests, as you know... I would assume that customer cars might be slower than the test car.

Completly agree, 6-7 secs gain in  a very hot clima isnt normal.

@ KresoF1 do you have a dbn file for this acceleration, otherwise times are a bit useless... Specialy in the evo thest the sls was also prettiy slow with 22 secs up to 160 miles like the r8 v10....

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

Markus, I expected little bit more objective opinion from you.

SLS Ring time is 7.40min, with Conti 5 tires(and this tires are normal sport street tires). Do you know 997.2 Turbo S Ring time? With normal Bridgestones much, much slower then SLS...

Regarding your assumption about "special" AMG cars this could be true for kompressor cars. BUT, SLS is NA engine car.

Watch out for next issue of Sport Auto... GT2 RS Supertest... As fast as Porsche claim?

Kreso, my objective opinion in this case is that the SLS does 0-300 in like 40s not 35s Smiley Why should the SA figure be 7s off? What was top speed on Doettinger Hoehe BTW?

BTW, GT2RS in HHR... approx. 1.08... Smiley

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

Markus, SLS Doettinger Hoehe top speed is 284km/h(from SA Supertest). HHR time is 1.10,8min. For comparison 997.2 Turbo PDK Coupe HHR time is 1.11,9min... And I know for the fact that Turbo S is not any faster on HHR.

Re: German AMS-Nardo 2010 high speed test

Keep in mind that at Papenburg there are only two directions for testing: north and south.

At Nardo? 360 Degrees... so for example wind direction and wind-speed are irrelevant... And wind can make big differences, especially at higher speeds.

Good point 284 for sls  and 293 for gt2, 295 for 458   and probably 300 for gt2 rs

as well the sls engine can still be tuned by moderat works so in fact is possible to run it with more than 570 hp by factory  and yes i dont believe the times you said, as well evo had the sls up to 160 miles with 22 secs witch is compared to the turbo s 19,7 secs and the 458 17,xxx secs pretty slow and in the range off the ligther r8v10..

Otherways to mentiond the nardo and papenburg test of the sls was up to 200 kmh almost identique just from 200 kmh up to 300 kmh was a difference of 6-7 secs....

So mercedes makes quick car, but otheres apperentyl quicker.

The SLS HHR time - NBR as well - is very impressive, no doubt Smiley
