    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

From the specs and engine layout, it seems like Lotus version of the Lexus LF-A. But if this is true, would that mean no mid-engined Lotus successor ?

Confirmed to be on sale in 2014 :

Prettiest folding hardtop I've ever seen.

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

Interesting (lighter) alternative to the upcoming Panamera Coupe (new 928).  This car could also be a F599/612 rival in terms of performance and segment for less money.

Very, very nice.  Let's see the new Esprit, too !!

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

The pictures show the concept car for this year´s Paris show. The production model is announced for 2014.

One can clearly see that Lotus heads for new customer groups, the car is departing from their current design language seen on Elise, Exige and Evora.

Yes it's too heavy, but it's lighter than all the competition from Panamera, Aston-Martin DB9, Lambo Estoque, M-B CL, Audi RS5, Ferrari 599/612, etc...

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

I'm hearing that the next Exige will still embody the lightweight philosophy, so the Lotus lineup will simply become more complete.  Still, I am not interested in the heavy cars. :p

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

Interesting picture Smiley I just don't think that it will be possible to compete in this sector as a company like Lotus. The competitive environment (Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi) has access to high-tech and lower-cost components due to economies of scale. Times might be over to successfully enter this sector as a new comer. But then I think that McLaren might do the trick with their new sportscar... Maybe Lotus can do it as well...Smiley

1650kg would be a major disaster Smiley Look at the GT2RS or the new McLaren. These cars are much lighter at the same level of hp.

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

This car seems to be closest to Ferrari California in concept

Hopefully Esprit will be the model to rival 458,McLaren,GT2RS...

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

With a fixed roof it would make a nice rival to 6series,SL,XKE...

I wonder how much weight would it loose without the folding metal roof and hybrid stuff...

If this car were intended to compete with the GT2RS or McLaren, I would be seriously worried as well!  However, that is the job of the new Esprit, not the Elite.  Grant correctly point's out this car's competition.

I do not think Lotus will be able to take on Ferrari, but the car may drive better than the equivalent Aston martin / Mercedes and thus steal some sales.

Lotus was involved in small part with the Nissan GTR, so maybe they feel confident in making a high performance car despite high weight.

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

The Elite is not aimed at the class of cars such as the GT2RS or the new McLaren, the Gallardo, etc.  It's a 2+2 / Grand Touring type product such as the (Panamera, Aston-Martin DB9, Lambo Estoque, etc.).

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

How is it that Lotus is expecting people to buy their "new" era cars when they have traded in their only few niche market aspects. Their cars no longer have the edge... All is see is dilution of brand image and departure from niche markets which gave steady sales...

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

     What next Exige ? Smiley

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

Nothing is imminent, nor has anything been announced.  However, the current S2 platform is nearing its end, so eventually there will be a new Exige and Lotus is working on it (whether on paper or with prototypes, I don't know).

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

Dany Bahar, CEO of Group Lotus said: "There's no denying that the Elite is breathtakingly beautiful to look at but it's so much more than that, it's a car that over delivers in all other aspects as well. One could say it's a car of perfect contradictions, it's compact yet spacious, high performing yet low emitting, lightweight yet still reassuringly solid. It's a car that we are exceptionally proud of at Lotus and we truly believe that there is nothing else like it out there both in terms of styling and performance.

"Make no mistake, there's a definite market requirement for the Elite – it's the ultimate sports car feel with comfort and space. There will always be those who believe that Lotus should stick to small sports cars but we didn't take the decision to design something like the Elite lightly, it's based on months of careful research and planning. It's worth noting this sector has been very successful for us in the past and now the Elite raises the benchmark higher still."

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

Fabulous and I want one, but the only thing that bothers me is that it's available only after 2014...three full years later...

    Re: New Lotus Elite rumour

It's also covered on wired, a little extra information but no new pictures:  http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/09/lotus-elite-hybrid/
