Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

    275) This was a really great, interactive exhibit. Standing on the black circles, one could hear the sounds of various Porsche models: 917, 550 Spyder etc.

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

    276) A view over the central area of the Porsche Museum which contained cross-sections of a 911 showing its design, development and production stages. It was really fascinating seeing the innards of the 911.

    278) Another photo of the design stage of the 911.

    MBMPM278.jpg

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

    279) This cross-section focussed on the development stage of the 911. It’s interesting that absolutely every part of this car was sliced open except for the German number plate. I assume that there is a law prohibiting that. A perfect illustration of Porsche’s attention to detail for a car that will never be driven on the public road!

    MBMPM279.jpg

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

    280) This cross-section focussed on the production stage of the 911. I was amused to see that the rear seatbacks actually contain a plank of wood! No doubt, this is lightweight but gives them sufficient strength to carry the weight of items stored on them when folded down.

    MBMPM280.jpg

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

    281) Lastly, this photo explained the story regarding the prancing horse (“Rössle”) on a yellow background which is the ancient heraldic emblem of the City of Stuttgart (and which Ferrari adopted after a German aeroplane was shot down in WW1). To this day, the City of Stuttgart disputes the use of this heraldic emblem by Ferrari.

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

And that completed my tour of the new Porsche Museum. It was really special and a huge improvement on the previous Porsche Museum which I had visited as part of my Factory Collection process on 10 November 2006. I really enjoyed visiting both the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche Museums and, in my view, it’s worth travelling to Stuttgart just to visit them.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the photos! (Apologies in advance for any factual errors that may have crept in when identifying the various models).

    Cheers,
    Easy

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

Fantastic walkthrough easy, epic pictures of both locations. I swear I feel like I've just been to the place every time you do a picture review. In fact I was going to post in the vienna thread that I had a discussion yesterday about the mix between contemporary and historic architecture into urban planning and vienna came into the conversation. I knew all the details just from you pictures and info. never stop posting these

    Quite enjoyed those pictures!

Visited the Porsche museum myself last year (on my way home from the M3 GTS preview in Münich)...

Of all the 281 photos I have posted, I think this one is my favourite. These cars, particularly the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, are enough to make me melt Smiley

Great Effort. Some of the best pictures online of these 2 places.  The mercedes museum in layout and presentation AND the building itself is a better facility IMO.For that matter the BMW museum is a nicer building. It's like the cars sadly. Porsche can build the best cars technically but whoever is the final arbiter of LOOKS at Porsche probably WW for these things was lousy.

The midnight blue GTS looks very nice! So many other nice cars especially the 917's. But so dry and dull in their display.

anyways I really liked this- was the yellowing a lighting effect or amazing paint work?

    reminds me of this

I also really liked the turn of the century London bus.

It's interesting - other guys whom I spoke to that visited both museums thought the Porsche Museum was better - I guess being there in person might make a difference

Anyhow, I'm glad you and others here have enjoyed these pics

Nope, not for me! I think the MB museum has more to tell and show. It just brings together world history and politics with the development and related engineering. However, regarding the building the Porsche is much better structured. And yes ... Mice like cheese :)

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

     Nice write -up and pics

I visited the Porsche Museum last year, and met up with Lars. The Mercedes museum looks cool, but I missed it.

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

Thanks SO MUCH for the travelog pictures.  I last visited Stuttgart in 2004 and visited both the Mercedes Museum and Porsche Museum BEFORE the new ones were built.  What a DIFFERENCE !!  I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to sharing your excellent photos and commentary.  Thanks again !

Yep... Never will forget that day. That day my wife told me that we are getting a baby! Now the cutie is already 6 months old!

Fantastic photos once again Easy. I really appreciate your effort to share this experience with us. I cannot wait to go this winter now

Make sure to let me know when you come!!!! I'm just an hour away and would love to meet you!

Re: Easy @ Mercedes-Benz & Porsche Museums, Stuttgart 4-5 Sept (with pics)

Fabulous images Easy.  Definitely a museum I need to visit.  One thing though, did you tell the museum that you know of a better condition CGT than the one they have on show in the museum!  Ask Mike S.

    Easy,

    As always, great photo-thread SmileySmiley

I have visited both Porsche and Mercedes Museum back in April, and those pictures took me back in time to my visit. If someone is reading your thread and hasn't visited Porsche Museum yet, he/she doesn't have to visit anymore. You put every important detail here.

On the other hand, Mercedes Museum is huge, there are a lot of things to see. I was very impressed by the political - economical and technological progress of human kind since 1863 that display on the walls of Mercedes Museum. I think it has more info and lot more to show there.

Nevertheless, another great Thread from you. Thank you for sharing them with us. Smiley
